\n\tJared Kushner<\/a>\u2018s Affinity Partners investment firm is no longer part of Paramount Skydance<\/a>\u2018s acquisition bid for Warner Bros. Discovery<\/a>, Variety has confirmed.<\/p>\n

\n\tAffinity Partners said in a statement to Bloomberg, which first reported<\/a> the news: \u201cWith two\u2004\u200bstrong competitors\u2004\u200bvying to secure\u2004\u200bthe future\u2004\u200bof this\u2004\u200bunique American\u2004\u200basset,\u2004\u200bAffinity\u2004\u200bhas\u2004\u200bdecided no longer to pursue\u2004\u200bthe opportunity. We\u2004\u200bcontinue to\u2004\u200bbelieve\u2004\u200bthere is a strong strategic rationale for Paramount\u2019s offer.\u201d Variety has reached out to Affinity Partners for additional info.<\/p>\n

\n\tKushner is married to Ivanka Trump, the daughter of President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

\n\tParamount, led by chairman and CEO David Ellison, has launched a hostile takeover attempt for the entirety of Warner Bros. Discovery. That came after Netflix inked a deal with WBD to buy the Warner Bros. studios and HBO Max<\/a>, in a deal with an enterprise value of $82.7 billion.<\/p>\n

\n\tParamount Skydance\u2019s $30\/share bid for Warner Bros. Discovery was being backed by Affinity Partners, the investment firm founded by Kushner. In addition, in prior communications to the Paramount team, WBD\u2019s board had expressed concerns that Paramount\u2019s Dec. 1 bid \u2014 backed by the\u00a0sovereign wealth funds of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Abu Dhabi<\/a>, as first\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Variety\u00a0\u2014 would trigger a problematic national security review by the U.S. government because of the foreign investors.<\/p>\n

\n\tParamount said in an SEC filing last week that the three Arab wealth funds and Kushner\u2019s Affinity \u201cagreed to forgo any governance rights \u2014 including board representation \u2014 associated with their non-voting equity investments.\u201d Now, Affinity is no longer part of the bid.<\/p>\n

\n\tWarner Bros. Discovery\u2019s board is formally reviewing the latest Paramount bid; the company is expected to reject the latest $30\/share offer. At that point, it remains to be seen whether the Ellisons and their remaining financing partners will return with a higher bid and, if so, whether Netflix will make a counteroffer.<\/p>\n
