Less than two weeks ago, we introduced you to Carrie Netzer. She\u2019s in the middle of cancer treatment, but her insurance, Cox HealthPlans, dropped Marketplace plans in Webster and Greene counties.<\/a><\/p>\nThis all started back in October and affects more than 4,000 people.<\/p>\n
Following our coverage, now CoxHealth says it will work with other insurers to offer in-network rates for those who need continued care.<\/p>\n
Netzer told us in early December that she didn\u2019t want to lose her team of CoxHealth doctors.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sure Mercy is a wonderful and great hospital, also, but I don\u2019t want to switch doctors in the middle of treatment. I trust my doctors,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Senator Josh Hawley saw the On Your Side report.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe doesn\u2019t want to switch to a new team, which is totally understandable,\u201d said Hawley. \u201cShe shouldn\u2019t have to. The bottom line is this is just ridiculous. This is terrible for patients. Just terrible.\u201d <\/p>\n
On Your Side emailed CoxHealth leaders and told them what Hawley said. They once again declined our request for an on-camera interview, but gave an additional statement:<\/p>\n
We acknowledge that continuity of care is important. Our understanding is that eligibility for continuity of care following an insurance change is determined by the patient\u2019s insurance plan, and CoxHealth will actively reach out to other ACA plans to offer in-network rates to facilitate continuation of care for these patients, if they are amenable.<\/p>\n
We still don\u2019t know for sure if Netzer can keep seeing her doctors. We talked with her insurance person this afternoon, and they\u2019re looking into it.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, folks in Barry, Christian, Lawrence, Stone, and Taney counties can keep their Marketplace Cox HealthPlan and their doctors. <\/p>\n
In another email, CoxHealth leaders also said:<\/p>\n
A snapshot of recent data shows about 4,300 Cox HealthPlans members on Marketplace plans in Greene and Webster Counties. For 2026, those affected policyholders have options, including short-term plans, employer-sponsored plans, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce\u2019s small group plans, etc. Policyholders were notified of these changes in October.<\/p>\n
CoxHealth still accepts most Anthem insurance plans; however, effective Jan. 1, 2026, we will no longer accept their ACA Marketplace plan – Anthem Pathways.<\/p>\n
