More than a year after an onstage blowup that saw Perry Farrell punch his Jane\u2019s Addiction<\/a> bandmate Dave Navarro, and ultimately led to the band\u2019s breakup, the singer<\/a> has issued a formal apology. Moreover, the band has issued a\u00a0 statement saying they\u2019ve resolved their differences, but that Jane\u2019s Addiction will remain broken up.<\/p>\n

The onstage meltdown<\/a> happened at a show in Boston on September 13th, 2024. Farrell walked over to Navarro and punched him in the middle of the set, and then received a few punches<\/a> from bassist Eric Avery while being removed from the stage. There were more punches thrown backstage, the tour was canceled, and the band broke up, leading to lawsuits<\/a> between Farrell and the other band members.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Farrell posted a formal apology on his Instagram page that reads as follows:<\/p>\n

\u201cTo everyone in Boston, and around the world. I\u2019d like to address what happened on stage last year. I\u2019ve reflected on it and know I didn\u2019t handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show. Jane\u2019s Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades. The band, the songs, the patrons and the impact that we\u2019ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down. My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest and positive. In Boston, we fell short of that, and I\u2019m truly sorry to everyone who was impacted. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued love and support.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the same time, a statement from Jane\u2019s Addiction read:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would like to clarify the events surrounding the cancellation of the tour after the show in Boston in September 2024. After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry\u2019s mental health which we regret. Today we are here to announce that we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane\u2019s Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together. We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors. Jane\u2019s Addiction will forever live in our hearts. We are proud of the music we created together. You, the fans, are our lifeblood, and we will always appreciate you.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two statements suggest some sort of legal settlement was reached, given that there were serious allegations in their respective lawsuits. Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins were seeking a minimum in $10 million<\/a> in damages from Farrell for assault and battery, emotional distress, negligence, and breach of contract, among other allegations.<\/p>\n

Farrell, meanwhile, sued his ex-bandmates<\/a> in response, citing assault and battery, bullying and harassment, and breach of contract, among other allegations. He also accused Navarro of having \u201cunclean hands.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

The 2024 tour that came to an abrupt end marked the band\u2019s first outing in 14 years to feature all four classic members of Jane\u2019s Addiction.
