In a career retrospective interview with Vanity Fair<\/a>, the iconic Sigourney Weaver revealed that while there were once hopes for more Galaxy Quest<\/a> featuring its original cast, that\u2019s now unlikely to happen. \u201cI\u2019ve been so fortunate to work with these great ensembles, Tony Shalhoub and Alan Rickman. I mean, it was just an amazing group,\u201d she reminisced about the experience.<\/p>\n

DreamWorks does have a long-gestating, in-development spin-off series currently stationed at Paramount+,<\/a> but an actual movie sequel seemingly isn\u2019t on the table.<\/p>\n

Still, about any involvement with a Galaxy Quest return, Weaver offered, \u201cI wish they\u2019d put out a director\u2019s cut of the movie because at the last minute, DreamWorks decided to release the movie with some of the more sophisticated scenes cut that Alan was in\u2014because it needed a kids\u2019 movie to go up against Stuart Little.\u201d<\/p>\n

She hopes the studio might consider releasing a director\u2019s cut to honor Rickman\u2019s original performance \u201cwith more of his very, very strange and wonderful scenes.\u201d Fans of the actor can only imagine how unrated they must have been if they weren\u2019t included in the released deleted scenes. Release the Rickman cut, DreamWorks!<\/p>\n

The iconic mother of sci-fi also discussed how returning to the franchise was once the plan, but Galaxy Quest\u2019s screenwriter was apprehensive. Weaver shared, \u201cI remember Bob Gordon had written a second one, and he wouldn\u2019t give it to DreamWorks because he just felt they\u2019d missed the boat on ours. And so we always meant to do a sequel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even as the cast for years expressed interest, Rickman\u2019s loss was so deeply felt by the ensemble that the actress concluded that it is now unlikely to happen without him: \u201cWith Alan passing away, we just lost heart.\u201d<\/p>\n
