{"id":355562,"date":"2025-12-18T06:10:06","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T06:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/355562\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T06:10:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T06:10:06","slug":"zach-wilson-frustrated-and-confused-about-why-he-isnt-starting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/355562\/","title":{"rendered":"Zach Wilson &#8220;frustrated&#8221; and &#8220;confused&#8221; about why he isn&#8217;t starting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel explained his decision to bench Tua Tagovailoa for Quinn Ewers, because the rookie gives the team \u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/mike-mcdaniel-quinn-ewers-gives-best-chance-to-win-tua-tagovailoa-will-be-no-3-qb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the best chance<\/a>.\u201d Zach Wilson, who was and will remain the No. 2 quarterback after being leap-frogged by Ewers, doesn\u2019t agree.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson admitted he is \u201cfrustrated\u201d and \u201cmaybe a little confused as well\u201d at not getting the start against the Bengals on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/sports\/nfl\/miami-dolphins\/article313042075.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">I would love to play<\/a>,\u201d Wilson said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. \u201cI can\u2019t control that. My job is to go out and do the best I can. Keep preparing, . . . getting better, supporting Quinn. Excited for him to get his first start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wilson got an explanation from McDaniel, but it doesn\u2019t sound like it did much to satisfy Wilson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA little bit [of an explanation]. There\u2019s still confusion there,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cBut you know what? That\u2019s how it goes sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wilson will remain the backup, with Tagovailoa serving as the emergency third quarterback. Wilson vows to stay ready, knowing he might get his chance at any time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, obviously, depending on how things go,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cThat just goes without saying. It\u2019s always a competition. You would hope all these organizations would want to play the best player and try and win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wilson signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Dolphins in the offseason. He is scheduled for free agency in March and could be one-and-done in Miami.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s definitely been eventful, right?\u201d Wilson said of his one season with the Dolphins. \u201cGuys have been great, and I appreciate the organization bringing me here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s definitely been tough. I don\u2019t think the season has gone as we all had hoped. Wish we could have pulled out some more wins and things had gone a little smoother. And of course, I would like to be playing, but it happens.
