Late-night hosts discussed \u2013 or ignored \u2013 Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s surprise primetime address<\/a> and dug further into the explosive new interview<\/a> the White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> opened his Wednesday night show with an acknowledgment of the president\u2019s 9pm ET national address, also known as a \u201csurprise primetime episode of The Worst Wing tonight on every channel\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Trump announced only on Tuesday that he would deliver an impromptu fireside chat during the season finales of Survivor and The Floor. \u201cIt\u2019s weird to think that had a couple of states just gone the other way, he\u2019d be hosting one of those shows,\u201d Kimmel joked. \u201cTrump shouldn\u2019t be pre-empting The Floor. He should be mopping it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a Truth Social post hyping up the address \u2013 subject unknown \u2013 Trump promised: \u201cIt has been a great year for our country, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI agree \u2013 the Epstein files are due on Friday<\/a>,\u201d Kimmel quipped. \u201cBasically, the speech tonight was taking the stand in his own defense. It was opening statements.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really is amazing that this fool is president.\u201d<\/p>\n

In other Trump news, the president recently unveiled a new \u201cpresidential hall of fame<\/a>\u201d in the White House, featuring highly politicized plaques offering a Maga interpretation of history: that Barack Obama passed the \u201c\u2018Unaffordable\u2019 Care Act\u201d and was \u201cone of the most divisive political figures in American history\u201d; that Joe Biden, represented only by an autopen<\/a>, was \u201cdominated by his Radical Left handlers\u201d; and that Ronald Reagan was \u201ca fan of President Donald J Trump long before President Trump\u2019s Historic run for the White House\u201d.<\/p>\n

Reagan, as Kimmel reminded, died in 2004 and was diagnosed with Alzheimer\u2019s disease a decade before that. \u201cWhat was he a fan of, exactly? Trump\u2019s Pizza Hut commercials?\u201d Kimmel wondered. \u201cWhat a sad individual this is. He knows, deep down, deep down in the pit where his soul should be, in that pot where all the undigested chicken and off-brand Sudafed piles up, he knows that no one respects him. He knows they all just want something from him. And he knows the world is laughing at him, and that his brain and face are like a Creamsicle melting on the sidewalk.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes a special kind of lunatic to get his insults cast in bronze,\u201d he concluded. \u201cCan we please put this man in a home before he completely destroys the one he\u2019s in now?\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n

On the Late Show, Stephen Colbert<\/a> tried his best to avoid talking about the 9pm \u201cold grandpa ramble-pants sundown jamboree\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe talked about doing the show live tonight to cover the speech,\u201d he told his studio audience, but decided not to \u201cbecause \u2013 and just to give you a little peek behind the showbiz curtain \u2013 we would have to have watched it. And I don\u2019t want to do that no more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert took issue with Trump announcing the speech \u201cout of nowhere\u201d with the promise that \u201cthe best is yet to come!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOK \u2026 kind of a mixed signal to announce an emergency national address because everything\u2019s going great,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cIt\u2019s like your mom calling and saying: \u2018Hey honey, I know you\u2019ve got work, but is there any way you could fly down here tomorrow? Because your dad \u2026 is doing great!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a really big deal for networks to just hand over their primetime slots on such short notice,\u201d he added, \u201cespecially because here, at CBS, his 9pm speech cuts right into the middle of the three-hour Survivor season finale. Unless that\u2019s the final challenge \u2013 \u2018Survivors, you\u2019ve endured starvation, extreme heat and poisonous snakes. But for your final challenge, you must listen to a bitter old man talk about a ballroom<\/a>.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

And on Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> checked in on a White House in \u201cdamage control\u201d mode after the chief of staff, Susie Wiles, gave a series of highly candid<\/a> interviews to Vanity Fair<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Among other things, Wiles said Trump had an \u201calcoholic\u2019s personality\u201d, referred to JD Vance as a \u201cconspiracy theorist for a decade\u201d and called Elon Musk an \u201cavowed ketamine user<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

Meyers claimed it was \u201cweird\u201d and \u201cin many ways, it\u2019s not surprising\u201d that Wiles said such things, other than the fact that she remains working at the White House. \u201cShe said the president she currently works for behaves like an alcoholic, the vice-president is a conspiracy theorist and the most likely explanation for the ramblings of the richest man on Earth is that he\u2019s on drugs,\u201d Meyers laughed.<\/p>\n

Wiles also defended Trump\u2019s friendship<\/a> with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, because they were \u201cyoung, you know, sort of young, single, whatever \u2013 I know it\u2019s a pass\u00e9 word but sort of young, single playboys together\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t think it was possible to make Trump\u2019s relationship with Epstein sound any worse, but Susie Wiles did it,\u201d said Meyers. \u201cYou\u2019re not helping Trump\u2019s case by saying he and Epstein were playboys together. That\u2019s like saying, \u2018Oh yeah, I was friends with Hannibal Lecter, but only because we\u2019re both foodies!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Meyers also mocked the article\u2019s accompanying photoshoot, which featured high-ranking cabinet members, including Vance, along with Wiles in the West Wing.<\/p>\n
