A wild raccoon fell through the ceiling of a restaurant at the popular Grand Geneva Resort in Wisconsin Sunday, according to authorities, with the raccoon biting at least one guest before it was corralled into a room and taken away by wildlife control. <\/p>\n

About 7:30 p.m. Sunday, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a rescue for a guest at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, for reports that a guest had been bitten by a raccoon. <\/p>\n

When officers arrived, they learned that the raccoon had fallen through the ceiling tiles at one of the restaurants inside the resort and landed on a dining room table, Lt. Pete Kruger told NBC Chicago. <\/p>\n

Kruger added that one of the guests at the resort tried to rescue or capture the raccoon, but got bit in the process. <\/p>\n

Officers and members of the Town of Lyons and City of Lake Geneva Fire Department, who also responded to the scene, were able to coop up the racoon into a small, private dining room until animal control arrived. <\/p>\n

“It was a tight room,” Kruger said. “About 10 by 12.” <\/p>\n

At one point, one of the officers placed a garbage can over the raccoon to contain it until wildlife control could put it into a cage, Kruger said. <\/p>\n

The raccoon was euthanized and tested for rabies, NBC Chicago affiliate WTMJ in Milwaukee<\/a> reported. Kruger told NBC Chicago the tests later showed the raccoon was not rabid. It wasn’t immediately clear what the extent of the injuries from the bite were, or if the guest received treatment. <\/p>\n

“I’ve never had a call like that,” Kruger said, adding that the ordeal lasted about an hour and a half. “This would be unusual.”<\/p>\n

A statement about the incident sent to NBC Chicago from Skip Harless, Grand Geneva Resort managing director confirmed that “a racoon entered the building Sunday night.” <\/p>\n

“Animal Control was contacted, and the animal was removed. As always, the safety and well-being of our guests is our priority,” the statement said. <\/p>\n
