\u2018South Park\u2019 creators reach $1.5 billion streaming deal with Paramount<\/p>\n
Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of \u201cSouth Park,\u201d have struck a $1.5 billion deal with Paramount for streaming rights of the show.<\/p>\n

SAN DIEGO \u2013 The day after one of the most controversial episodes<\/a> in the show\u2019s history, \u201cSouth Park\u201d<\/a> creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone had a succinct response to the ruckus they caused.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re terribly sorry,\u201d Parker said with a sly grin at a Comedy Central’s Comic-Con animation panel next to Stone, \u201cBeavis and Butt-Head\u201d honcho Mike Judge and \u201cDigiman\u201d creator Andy Samberg.<\/p>\n The Season 27 premiere of \u201cSouth Park\u201d tore into President Donald Trump<\/a>, showing him literally getting into bed naked with Satan, and referenced their Paramount bosses\u2019 settlement with the president<\/a>, the \u201c60 Minutes\u201d flap and the surprise cancellation of CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”<\/a> All followed Wednesday by an agreement between Paramount and the \u201cSouth Park\u201d creators for 50 new episodes and a lucrative new streaming deal on Paramount+.<\/p>\n White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers slammed the episode in a statement to USA TODAY, calling “South Park” a “fourth-rate show” that “hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years.”<\/p>\n When Comic-Con panel moderator Josh Horowitz joked that he had a subpoena with him, Parker responded, \u201cIt\u2019s fine; we\u2019re ready.\u201d<\/p>\n Parker and Stone talked at length about the speed of today\u2019s topical comedy and making newsy jokes. \u201cIt\u2019s not just \u2018SNL\u2019 anymore,\u201d Stone said.<\/p>\n Parker revealed that they were at their studios this morning trying to figure out next week\u2019s episode. \u201cRight now we don\u2019t know,\u201d Parker said. \u201cIt\u2019s super stressful.\u201d<\/p>\n And when working on the July 23 season premiere, \u201cthree days ago I didn\u2019t know if anyone\u2019s going to like this,\u201d Parker added. They were looking at newspapers and changing things on the fly right up until they needed to be done.<\/p>\n As far as big ideas for the season go, \u201cmy whiteboard\u2019s blank, dude,\u201d Parker said. So much so that when they were asked to do a summer promo video hyping the new season, they made up a bunch of scenes just for that sizzle reel. \u201cYou seriously think we went and made a bunch of shows ahead of time and banked them?\u201d<\/p>\n Then Stone chimed in, mock seriously: \u201cNo politics. We\u2019re not doing any of that (stuff).\u201d<\/p>\n Stone said he feels most competitive with \u201cwhat the kids are doing on TikTok and YouTube.\u201d In fact, he and Parker admitted they now get a lot of their entertainment online and from social media. \u201cWe have a great gig, but I\u2019m jealous.
