Savannah Guthrie shares rare insight into ‘horrible’ divorce<\/p>\n

Savannah Guthrie<\/a> is going to kick off 2026 by focusing on her health<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The longtime “Today” show host<\/a>, 53, revealed she will be taking a brief hiatus from the NBC morning talk show in the new year to undergo vocal surgery, Guthrie announced during the show’s Dec. 19 broadcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit,” Guthrie said. “Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules, and now I also have a polyp.”<\/p>\n

Vocal cord lesions are growths that may form on one or both vocal cords and are typically the result of a person overusing or misusing their voice, according to the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Vocal nodules, a type of cord lesion, are callus-like growths that develop on the midpoint of the vocal cords, per Cleveland Clinic. They are common among singers and public speakers. Meanwhile, a vocal cord polyp is a lesion that is usually larger in size than a nodule.<\/p>\n

Treatment for vocal cord lesions can include voice therapy, surgery and lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, reducing stress and improving one’s diet, according to Cleveland Clinic.<\/p>\n

“It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks,” Guthrie said. “So, it’s my last day for a little while.”<\/p>\n

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Guthrie for comment.<\/p>\n

Despite the health setback, Guthrie said she was “really excited” about the diagnosis after struggling with symptoms for years.<\/p>\n

Guthrie’s “Today” cohost Sheinelle Jones<\/a>, who previously underwent the same surgery, joked “maybe you’ll come out singing like, I don’t know, Celine Dion<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

“Well, it’s really funny, I used to sing,” Guthrie said. “Then I couldn’t sing anymore, and then I couldn’t speak anymore. So, who knows, guys.
