Right trap, wrong bear.<\/p>\n
A massive metal trap laced with chicken and sardines set up to lure a brazen bear that\u2019s been living under a man\u2019s house for over 20 days captured the wrong black bear \u2014 leaving a terrified homeowner with a 550-pound black bear still nesting under his California home<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cThere was a big click and a bang!\u201d said Ken Johnson of Altadena, who has been enduring a living nightmare with a bear hanging out in a crawl space beneath his house for almost three weeks.<\/p>\n They got the wrong guy. A black bear wanders into a metal trap Tuesday night. Fish and Game<\/p>\n The \u201cbeary\u201d scary drama unfolded on Tuesday night at around 9.30 p.m. when the wrong bear was lured into Johnson\u2019s driveway to a meat-stocked Cambrian-style box trap the California Department of Fish and Wildlife set up to capture the unwanted house guest.<\/p>\n The trap was filled with a smorgasbord of things that bears love to eat including shrimp, peanut butter and apples. A feast too tempting to resist for another bear roaming around the neighborhood.<\/p>\n The wrong bear was lured by the smell of sardines, shrimp and peanut butter. Fish and Game<\/p>\n After the bear wandered into the brown metal box, the trap door slammed shut!<\/p>\n \u201cIt must have smelled the food,\u201d said Johnson who was outside looking for an extension cord moments after it slammed shut. \u201cI heard rattling, it scared me.\u201d<\/p>\n Fish and wildfire officers immediately jumped into action, tagging the bear and relocating it to a \u201cnearby suitable habitat,\u201d spokesman Cort Klopping said.<\/p>\n Klopping added that the bear wasn\u2019t in their system, but has since been tagged so it can be tracked upon future sightings. <\/p>\n \u201cIts like the bear has a name tag now,\u201d Klopping said. \u201cIt\u2019s a healthy male black bear between three to four years old, but not as large as the one under the house.\u201d<\/p>\n
