Fish and Game<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cbeary\u201d scary drama unfolded on Tuesday night at around 9.30 p.m. when the wrong bear was lured into Johnson\u2019s driveway to a meat-stocked Cambrian-style box trap the California Department of Fish and Wildlife set up to capture the unwanted house guest.<\/p>\n<p>The trap was filled with a smorgasbord of things that bears love to eat including shrimp, peanut butter and apples. A feast too tempting to resist for another bear roaming around the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>The wrong bear was lured by the smell of sardines, shrimp and peanut butter. Fish and Game<\/p>\n<p>After the bear wandered into the brown metal box, the trap door slammed shut!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt must have smelled the food,\u201d said Johnson who was outside looking for an extension cord moments after it slammed shut. \u201cI heard rattling, it scared me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fish and wildfire officers immediately jumped into action, tagging the bear and relocating it to a \u201cnearby suitable habitat,\u201d spokesman Cort Klopping said.<\/p>\n<p>Klopping added that the bear wasn\u2019t in their system, but has since been tagged so it can be tracked upon future sightings. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIts like the bear has a name tag now,\u201d Klopping said. \u201cIt\u2019s a healthy male black bear between three to four years old, but not as large as the one under the house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/11\/us-news\/altadena-homeowner-describes-what-its-like-to-live-with-an-unwanted-550-pound-bear\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chaos of living with a bear under his house<\/a> continues for Johnson, who said he can hear his roomie banging around from 5 a.m. every day. <\/p>\n<p>The 550-pound bear remains under Ken Johnson\u2019s home. Officials have tried <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/05\/us-news\/unusual-way-officials-are-trying-to-lure-a-550-pound-bear-out-from-underneath-altadena-home\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">scent spray which smells like cherries and caramel<\/a> to get the bear out with no luck ahead of Christmas. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cit\u2019s been quite a ride,\u201d said Johnson. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Right trap, wrong bear.
