\n\tHaving wrapped the long-awaited sequel to Spaceballs<\/a>, star Lewis Pullman<\/a> noted the experience was of cosmic proportions.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a new interview with People<\/a>, the Thunderbolts* star said, \u201cIt was a dream come true. We just wrapped, and \u2026 every day was such a trip. It \u2026 felt like a bizarre simulation. I just couldn\u2019t believe my luck.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Lessons in Chemistry alum continued, \u201cWe\u2019ve been wanting to do that [work together with father and original Spaceballs star Bill Pullman<\/a>] forever and we never knew whether we could get the chance or not. And so doing it on a movie like\u00a0Spaceballs 2<\/a>\u00a0was just like, \u2018What simulation\u00a0\u2026 what world are we in right now?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnnounced as early in development in Summer 2024<\/a>, Amazon MGM Studios\u2019 Spaceballs 2 will continue the tradition of the 1987 space epic satire, featuring Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman and Daphne Zuniga reprising their respective roles as Dark Helmet, Lone Star and Princess Vespa. Also returning is original steward Mel Brooks<\/a>. New additions alongside Lewis Pullman include Keke Palmer, Anthony Carrigan and Josh Gad, who also co-wrote the script. Josh Greenbaum helmed the feature (also from scribes Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez), which commenced production in September<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe project was confirmed earlier this year, when Brooks posted a clip<\/a> parodying Star Wars\u2018 iconic opening crawl, with text that ribbed Hollywood\u2019s sequelmania, reading: \u201cThirty-eight years ago, there was only one\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0trilogy. But since then there have been \u2026 a prequel trilogy, a sequel trilogy, a sequel to the prequel, a prequel to the sequel, countless TV spinoffs, a movie spinoff of the TV spinoff, which is both a prequel and a sequel.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tIt continued: \u201cNot to mention \u2026 2\u00a0Dunes, 7\u00a0Jurassic Parks,\u00a02\u00a0Avatars\u00a0plus 3 upcoming\u00a0Avatars\u00a0making 5\u00a0Avatars, 36 MCU movies with two different Robert Downey Jr.\u2019s, DCU attempt Number 1, DCU attempt Number 2, an animated\u00a0Lion King, a live action animated\u00a0Lion King, a live action animated\u00a0Lion King\u00a0prequel, 8\u00a0Harry Potter\u00a0movies, a TV series remaking the same 8\u00a0Harry Potter\u00a0movies, a whole streaming service of\u00a0Star Trek, 7\u00a0Alien\u00a0movies (2 of which were also\u00a0Predator\u00a0movies, not to be mistaken for the 6\u00a0Predator\u00a0movies that are not also\u00a0Alien\u00a0movies), 1\u00a0Prometheus\u00a0(which is kind of an\u00a0Alien\u00a0movie), 4 Beatles movies? And \u2026\u00a0Oppenheimer.\u00a0But in thirty-eight years there has only ever been one SPACEBALLS. Until now\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA send-up of the sci-fi genre that serves as an amalgam pastiche of iconic films like Star Wars to 2001: A Space Odyssey, the pic grossed just over $38.1 million worldwide and has endured over the years as a cult classic. <\/p>\n
