{"id":361968,"date":"2025-12-21T14:45:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T14:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/361968\/"},"modified":"2025-12-21T14:45:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-21T14:45:09","slug":"trump-tariffs-push-swiss-pharma-ceo-to-urge-price-alignment-with-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/361968\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump tariffs push Swiss pharma CEO to urge price alignment with US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Roche\u2019s Chief Executive an interview with Swiss media published on Sunday called for Switzerland to pay more for new drugs, to bring prices in line with those paid by Washington.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Swiss pharmaceutical giant\u2019s US subsidiary Genentech figures among 14 pharmaceutical companies which have so far signed on to US President Donald Trump\u2019s push to cut some US drug prices.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Companies have been making these voluntary deals after Trump sent a letter to 17 major companies over the summer threatening sky-high tariffs if they did not lower drug prices.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Genentech joined the deal on Friday, agreeing to commit to \u201cMost Favoured Nation\u201d pricing: matching the lowest price offered in other wealthy nations, including Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Switzerland is the country that \u201chas the most to gain and the most to lose\u201d in this equation, Roche chief Thomas Schinecker said in an interview with Switzerland\u2019s Tamedia Group published by the Le Matin Dimanche weekly.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">He said that the details of that agreement remained confidential, but that Washington in principle was seeking to see other wealthy countries contribute more to financing the development of new drugs, in line with their economic strength.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A Roche worker supervising the package of the Tamiflu, the drug that combats the effects of bird flu in humans.
