{"id":362692,"date":"2025-12-21T23:39:28","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T23:39:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/362692\/"},"modified":"2025-12-21T23:39:28","modified_gmt":"2025-12-21T23:39:28","slug":"owners-of-atlanta-behavioral-health-center-indicted-for-medicaid-fraud-georgia-ag-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/362692\/","title":{"rendered":"Owners of Atlanta behavioral health center indicted for Medicaid fraud, Georgia AG says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Georgia Attorney General&#8217;s Office has indicted two Woodstock residents accused of defrauding Medicaid of more than $1.4 million.<\/p>\n<p>Kim and Marcel Higgins, the owners of Atlanta&#8217;s Overcomers Day Services, LLC, are facing a combined 23 counts of Medicaid fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit Medicaid fraud.<\/p>\n<p>According to the indictment, Marcel Higgins worked as a paraprofessional providing Intensive Family Intervention services to children enrolled in Georgia Medicaid. Kim Higgins served as the office administrator for the business and submitted claims to the program.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors claim that from October 2017 to July 2023, the pair submitted claims to receive payments for both services they never provided or services that were provided by &#8220;unqualified individuals,&#8221; including Kim Higgins.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0When a state investigator asked the business to provide progress notes and other records, officials say they gave her documents &#8220;which contained false and fraudulent information.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Those who commit Medicaid fraud are stealing from taxpayers, and they&#8217;re abusing a program that&#8217;s meant to care for our most vulnerable Georgians,&#8221; Attorney General Chris Carr said. &#8220;Theft of public funds won&#8217;t be tolerated, and anyone who attempts to exploit the system will be held accountable by our office.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A DeKalb County grand jury indicted the pair on Dec. 10.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say the Medicaid Fraud and Patient Protection Division has secured over 90 convictions for Medicaid Fraud since 2016, with over $19 million in restitution.<\/p>\n<p>\n        More from CBS News\n      <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Georgia Attorney General&#8217;s Office has indicted two Woodstock residents accused of defrauding Medicaid of more than $1.4&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":362693,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[59],"tags":[5786,3071,97,252,253,1341],"class_list":{"0":"post-362692","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-health-care","8":"tag-atlanta","9":"tag-crime","10":"tag-health","11":"tag-health-care","12":"tag-healthcare","13":"tag-medicaid"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/362692","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=362692"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/362692\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/362693"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=362692"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=362692"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=362692"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
