From late night car crashes to major announcements, newspaper reporters and editors have to be ready to spring into action at all hours of the day and night.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Dec. 14, 1985, Summit Sentinel reporter and editor Brad Johnson was enjoying his Saturday afternoon at a friend\u2019s house in Dillon before he received an urgent call from the advertising manager of the paper.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Although Johnson wasn\u2019t in the newsroom that day, the advertising manager was \u2014 and what he heard over the police scanner quickly changed Johnson\u2019s plans for the rest of the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was at the office, and he heard the traffic on the scanner,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cHe called and explained that he did not know what was going on but that I needed to get to Keystone because they were calling every emergency agency in the county over there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson wasted no time in getting to Keystone, charging into the marketing office at the resort and attempting to get a handle on what was developing. On top of one mountain, gusts reached nearly 100 mph, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/wrh\/hazards?obs=true&amp;wfo=gyx&amp;hazard=true&amp;hazard_type=all&amp;hazard_opacity=80&amp;tab=legend\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">National Weather Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Steamboat Springs, wind on top of Mt. Widespread power outages are expected,\u201d the warning states. \u201cTravel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Summit Daily News staff<\/p>\n<p>5. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/summit-middle-school-student-arrested-charged-with-assault-after-on-campus-incident\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Summit Middle School student arrested, charged with assault after on-campus incident<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Summit County Sheriff\u2019s Office confirmed deputies arrested one juvenile after an altercation between two juveniles Thursday, Dec. 18, at Summit Middle School.<\/p>\n<p>Summit Middle School staff sent parents an email Thursday evening, informing them of an \u201cincident involving students\u201d that happened that day on the middle school\u2019s campus. Summit County Sheriff\u2019s Office Lt. Mike Schilling said the altercation happened around noon and involved a dispute between two students that led to an assault with a pocket knife.<\/p>\n<p>The school resource officer was on-campus and responded with school staff.
