Savannah Guthrie<\/a> announced she will be taking a short hiatus from the \u201cToday\u201d<\/a> show in 2026 as she undergoes vocal cord surgery.<\/p>\n

During Friday\u2019s broadcast, Guthrie announced that she will be undergoing a procedure to remove nodules and a polyp from her vocal cords in the new year and will have to go on extended vocal rest to recover.\u201c<\/p>\n

Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit,\u201d the 53-year-old NBC news anchor shared on Friday\u2019s episode. <\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules and I also have a polyp. It\u2019s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks, so this is my last day for a little while,\u201d she said on the Dec. 19 broadcast.<\/p>\n

Guthrie joked that some viewers might think she had \u201cthe world\u2019s longest head cold,\u201d but instead she\u2019s \u201creally excited\u201d to have finally diagnosed the problem and found a fix.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been going on for years, honestly, so to have a solution,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Guthrie added that one downside to the procedure is that she has to be \u201ctotally silent\u201d for a couple of weeks, which she teased meant that \u201cChristmas coming early for my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guthrie shared the news alongside her colleagues, Sheinelle Jones<\/a>, Craig Melvin, and Al Roker.<\/p>\n

Jones, who will be joining the \u201cToday\u201d show\u2019s fourth hour in 2026 alongside Jenna Bush Hager, told Guthrie that she also underwent the same surgery. She also claimed that there are perks to a silent recovery.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe silver lining is you have permission to be still,\u201d she explained. \u201cThe house gets quiet, the kids are gonna want to help you out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones then gifted Guthrie the whiteboard she used to communicate during her recovery. \u201cA lot of the greats have done it, maybe you\u2019ll come out singing like, I don\u2019t know, C\u00e9line Dion,\u201d she joked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, you know, it\u2019s really funny, I used to sing,\u201d Guthrie responded. \u201cThen I couldn\u2019t sing anymore and then I couldn\u2019t speak anymore,\u201d joking, \u201cSo who knows, guys, the tour is happening in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guthrie joined the \u201cToday\u201d show in June 2011 as co-host of the third hour, then became the main co-anchor in July 2012.
