PHOENIX \u2014 A daily heat record that has stood for over a century is expected to be broken on Monday, officials said.<\/p>\n

Phoenix is forecast to reach a high of 82 degrees, which would shatter the record high of 79 degrees set in 1917, according to the National Weather Service<\/a> (NWS).<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s an 80% chance we definitely break that record,\u201d NWS meteorologist Gabriel Lojero said. \u201cSo, it looks like it\u2019s a very likely scenario.\u201d<\/p>\n

This would be the second straight day<\/a> that a new record high was set. The mercury topped out at 81 degrees at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the NWS uses for the city\u2019s official readings on Sunday. That broke the record of 79 degrees, set in 2024.<\/p>\n

This would also be the second week in a row<\/a> that the Valley would start the workweek with record-breaking heat.<\/p>\n

High temperatures for this time of year are generally in the mid-60s, according to the NWS<\/a>.<\/p>\n
