While it is unclear if Brie Larson<\/a> will be returning as Captain Marvel<\/a> in the MCU<\/a>, Carol Danvers<\/a> still leads the Avengers<\/a> in the comics. Indeed, the history-making hero will be headlining a new solo miniseries in 2026. However, Marvel<\/a> made a major mistake in the announcement of their new comic.<\/p>\n

The new series will be titled Captain Marvel: Dark Past. Running for five issues, the mini-series will be written by Sentry co-creator Paul Jenkins<\/a>. The artwork will be provided by Storm and Unbreakable X-Men artist Lucas Werneck<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The story will focus on Carol Danvers as a dark part of her family\u2019s history is exposed by a mysterious group called DNVR. This, in turn, leads to Captain Marvel recovering lost memories from her days as Ms. Marvel<\/a>. To further complicate matters, everything also ties into a story that Carol was forced to stop investigating as a Daily Bugle journalist. As thrilling as this sounds, however, the detail-driven plot is undercut by a Mighty Marvel Mistake.<\/p>\n

What is Marvel\u2019s big mistake with Captain Marvel: Dark Past?<\/p>\n

Along with the synopsis of the first issue, Marvel released a scan of Lucas Werneck\u2019s cover for Captain Marvel: Dark Past #1. The cover depicts Carol Danvers in her current uniform flying alongside her past self. The past Danvers is depicted wearing the leotard, opera gloves, and thigh-boots she wore as Ms. Marvel and Warbird. However, her emblem has been rendered backwards.<\/p>\n

Ms. Marvel\u2019s lighting-bolt emblem has always been rendered in an S-shape. This was originally used to emphasize her feminist status. (It was Ms. Marvel \u2013 not Miss Marvel!) The same emblem was used by Kamala Khan after she took up the mantle when Carol became Captain Marvel.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear just how such a big mistake could have made it to print. What makes it even more erroneous is the emblem\u2019s use in title text, where it replaces the letter \u2018S\u2019 in the word \u2018past.\u2019 The most likely explanation is that the artwork was mirror-flipped at some point before the text was added to the cover. However it happened, this is still an major mishap on the part of Marvel Comics<\/a>.<\/p>\n
