Kate Winslet said a drama teacher once told her she would have to settle for \u201cfat girl parts\u201d because of her body type.<\/p>\n

The actress shared that she was given the harsh criticism in her younger years during her appearance on the BBC Radio 4 show\u00a0\u201cDesert Island Discs,\u201d per Deadline<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Winslet, now 50, recalled being \u201cstocky\u201d as a child.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a little bit stocky, when I did start taking it much more seriously and got a child agent I really remember vividly a drama teacher \u2026 and she said to me, \u2018Well, darling, you\u2019ll have a career if you\u2019re ready to settle for the fat girl parts,’\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at me now,\u201d she reflected. \u201cIt\u2019s appalling the things people say to children.\u201d<\/p>\n

Winslet has spoken about the incident before<\/a>. During an interview with \u201c60 Minutes\u201d that aired in December 2024, she got emotional as she recalled the drama teacher\u2019s words.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was never even fat!\u201d Winslet said.<\/p>\n

The comments ultimately gave her motivation, and she recalled gaining a \u201cquiet determination\u201d from the criticism.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt made me think, \u2018I\u2019ll just show you \u2013\u2013 just quietly,\u2019\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

The \u201cTitanic\u201d star also said she\u2019d confronted some of her fat-shamers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI let them have it,\u201d she shared. \u201cI said, \u2018I hope this haunts you.\u2019 It was a great moment. It was a great moment, because it wasn\u2019t just for me. It was for all those people who were subjected to that level of harassment. It was horrific. It was really bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the British actress criticized the popularity of weight-loss drugs.<\/a><\/p>\n

Winslet told the Times that while she enjoys seeing actresses \u201cdressed how they want, whichever shape,\u201d she noted that \u201cso many people\u201d were also on weight-loss drugs.<\/p>\n

During an interview with \u201c60 Minutes\u201d that aired in December 2024, she said she\u2019d confronted some of her fat-shamers in the past.<\/p>\n

Winslet noted that she hadn\u2019t undergone any cosmetic procedures.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy favorite thing is when your hands get old,\u201d\u00a0she told the outlet.\u00a0\u201cThat\u2019s life, in your hands.
