{"id":36634,"date":"2025-07-25T15:44:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T15:44:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/36634\/"},"modified":"2025-07-25T15:44:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T15:44:12","slug":"rebecca-de-mornay-slams-hand-that-rocks-the-cradle-remake-betrayal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/36634\/","title":{"rendered":"Rebecca De Mornay slams &#8216;Hand That Rocks the Cradle&#8217; remake: &#8216;Betrayal&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Don\u2019t mess with Peyton Flanders.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca De Mornay, the iconic actress who brought the deranged nanny to life in \u201cThe Hand That Rocks the Cradle,\u201d got candid on her feelings surrounding the film\u2019s reboot.<\/p>\n<p>The 1992 thriller is getting a facelift by 20th Century, with Michelle Garza Cervera helming as the director and \u201cLonglegs\u201d star Maika Monroe, 32, portraying Flanders, the role made famous by De Mornay.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca De Mornay spoke to The Post about her new thriller, \u201cSaint Clare.\u201d Page Six<\/p>\n<p>Despite the buzz surrounding the remake, the \u201cRisky Business\u201d bombshell admitted she wasn\u2019t thrilled when she learned about the news, exclusively telling The Post that no one from the new cast or crew reached out to her about redoing the legendary film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody. I found out about it, and I kind of joked that I was quite perturbed. It felt like a betrayal, like how dare you [have] somebody else be playing that part,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>That doesn\u2019t mean that De Mornay is boycotting the movie. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m actually kind of curious to see it, to see if they can live up to what we did,\u201d the actress added.<\/p>\n<p>While she\u2019s gearing up for her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt9024562\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">latest thriller \u201cSaint Clare,\u201d<\/a> which also features Bella Thorne and Ryan Phillippe, the star shared that remakes are sort of a moot point in Hollywood, despite classics \u201cI Know What You Did Last Summer\u201d (1997) getting rebooted.<\/p>\n<p>She also discussed \u201cThe Hand That Rocks the Cradle\u201d reboot. <\/p>\n<p>Rebecca De Mornay played Peyton Flanders, the deranged nanny, in the \u201992 blockbuster.  \u00a9Buena Vista Pictures\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>She told The Post that no one from the reboot reached out to her about the follow-up film. \u00a9Buena Vista Pictures\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>In June, Rob Lowe even revealed they are <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/29\/entertainment\/rob-lowe-gives-st-elmos-fire-sequel-update-40-years-after-original\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">working on a script for a \u201cSt. Elmo\u2019s Fire\u201d<\/a> remake 40 years after the original one hit theaters in 1985.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew stories seem to be impossible for people to come up with. That\u2019s why I really like \u2018Saint Claire.\u2019 It\u2019s new. I haven\u2019t seen anything like it before,\u201d De Mornay told The Post about her new horror film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a kind of laziness of falling [into] \u2018Oh, well, that works. So let\u2019s just do that one again,\u2019 rather than coming up with a new story. So that kind of bugs me a little,\u201d she added, while noting that she enjoyed the various versions of \u201cA Star is Born.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maika Monroe is stepping into the role that De Mornay made famous. First, in 1951, there was a television adaptation featuring Kathleen Crowley and Conrad Nagel as the romantic leads.<\/p>\n<p>Three years later, Judy Garland and James Mason remade it for the big screen, followed by Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in 1976, and, finally, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/08\/16\/barbra-streisand-shades-bradley-coopers-a-star-is-born\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe tend to think a movie is one cast. I guess it doesn\u2019t have to be, if it\u2019s a really good story, a good script. The film followed the sexual adventures of Joel Goodson (Cruise), a high school senior who meets a call girl (De Mornay) while his parents are on vacation.<\/p>\n<p>The on-screen love interests started dating in real life after meeting on a different set in 1982, but their <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/celebrity-news\/tom-cruise-dating-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">relationship fizzled out in 1985<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1992, De Mornay was once again launched into international success in \u201cThe Hand That Rocks the Cradle,\u201d with the flick bringing in a whopping <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/hand-that-rocks-the-cradle-remake-filming-update-martin-starr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">$140 million box office haul<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca De Mornay during her interview with The Post. Page Six<\/p>\n<p>The actress continued to star on the big screen in flicks like 1985\u2019s \u201cRunaway Train\u201d with Jon Voight and 1991\u2019s \u201cBackdraft\u201d with Kurt Russell.<\/p>\n<p>However, her chilling portrayal of the warped nanny in \u201cHand That Rocks the Cradle\u201d will always be remembered. <\/p>\n<p>The original flick focuses on an obstetrician and his pregnant wife (De Mornay), whose life crumbles when he\u2019s caught sexually molesting one of his patients. Posing as a nanny, she goes to great lengths to get revenge against the woman who came forward against her late husband and her family.<\/p>\n<p>Actor Martin Starr,\u00a0who stars opposite Monroe in the upcoming remake, shared in March that they\u2019re already done shooting the follow-up film.<\/p>\n<p>During the <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/hand-that-rocks-the-cradle-remake-filming-update-martin-starr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">interview with Collider<\/a>, Starr confessed he wasn\u2019t sure if the movie would be released this year or in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Monroe\u2019s reboot has already wrapped filming but has no release date yet.
