A storm that had the potential to bring a white Christmas to Massachusetts and the Boston area may not bring as much snow to the most of New England ahead of the holidays after all.<\/p>\n

The snow Tuesday evening will be nothing more than a minor inconvenience or, glass half full, a nice mood-setter for the holidays.<\/p>\n

Will it snow before Christmas?<\/p>\n

It will be located mainly north of the Mass Pike across Worcester, Middlesex and Essex counties. Boston will likely see a few hours of snow as well.<\/p>\n

The snow will quickly taper off from west to east tonight ending in central Massachusetts between 8-10 p.m. and in eastern Massachusetts between 10 p.m. to midnight.<\/p>\n

Snow amounts will be light with just a coating to an inch from Boston to Worcester and areas to the north.<\/p>\n

There will be a tad bit more, 1-3″ across the border in parts of southern Vermont and New Hampshire.<\/p>\n

Christmas forecast<\/p>\n

As the storm blows up well to our east, out at sea, we may get one last band (otherwise known as an inverted trough), during Wednesday morning and early afternoon.<\/p>\n

If you are traveling along or east of I-95 on Wednesday, you may encounter some wind-whipped, ocean-effect snow showers that could briefly whiten the roadways and reduce visibility.<\/p>\n

Beyond that, we do not foresee any weather issues Wednesday night or Thursday.<\/p>\n

It will be rather chilly, but seasonal on Christmas Day with a bit of a gusty breeze at times.<\/p>\n
