Chevy Chase said he was \u201cupset\u201d that he was excluded from Saturday Night Live\u2019s 50th anniversary special.<\/p>\n

The actor and comedian, 82, revealed in CNN Films\u2019 upcoming documentary, I\u2019m Chevy Chase and You\u2019re Not, that he was \u201churt\u201d by not being involved with the special.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it was kind of upsetting, actually,\u201d Chase said. \u201cThis is probably the first time I\u2019m saying it. But I expected that I would\u2019ve been on the stage too with all the other actors. When Garrett [Morris] and Laraine [Newman] went on the stage there, I was curious as to why I didn\u2019t. No one asked me to. Why was I left aside?\u201d<\/p>\n

Chase was one of Saturday Night Live\u2018s original seven \u201cNot Ready for Prime-Time Players\u201d when the series debuted on October 11, 1975. He left the show in 1976, just a few episodes into the second season, and hosted eight times between 1978 to 1997. He is credited with co-creating the show\u2019s satirical \u201cWeekend Update\u201d news segment and was its first anchor.<\/p>\n

SNL commemorated its 50th anniversary in February with SNL50: The Anniversary Special, a three-hour primetime special featuring dozens of former and current cast members, hosts, and musicians who had appeared on the show over the years. Nearly 15 million people watched<\/a> the special episode.<\/p>\n

In reference to the anniversary special\u2019s \u201cWeekend Update\u201d segment, Chase said, \u201cWhy was Bill Murray there and why was I not? I don\u2019t have an answer for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI did bring it up once in a text to Lorne and then took it back,\u201d Chase said, in reference to SNL creator Lorne Michaels. \u201cI said, \u2018OK, I take it back, silly.\u2019 But it\u2019s not that silly. Somebody\u2019s made a bad mistake there. I don\u2019t know who it was, but somebody made a mistake. They should\u2019ve had me on that stage. It hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chase said that the special episode was slated to feature him more, along with his wife, Jayni Chase. She said that people at SNL \u201ctold Chevy up until that day that there were two bits, they were going back and forth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then, all of a sudden, \u2018No, there\u2019s no bit,\u2019\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n

Michaels explained in the documentary that \u201cThere were a couple of versions of [\u2019Weekend Update\u2019] and we went back and forth on that. There was also a caution from somebody that I don\u2019t want to name that Chevy, you know, wasn\u2019t as focused.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019m Chevy Chase and You\u2019re Not will highlight Chase\u2019s \u201crise from breakout Saturday Night Live phenomenon to box office royalty and his equally spectacular fall from grace,” according to its description.
