{"id":366830,"date":"2025-12-24T04:15:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T04:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/366830\/"},"modified":"2025-12-24T04:15:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T04:15:08","slug":"boulder-artist-creates-nature-themed-stickers-to-cover-new-national-park-pass-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/366830\/","title":{"rendered":"Boulder artist creates nature-themed stickers to cover new National Park Pass design"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The stickers are sized to match the America The Beautiful pass and are designed to be peeled in different ways.<\/p>\n<p>BOULDER, Colo. \u2014 A Boulder artist is creating removable stickers featuring her nature paintings to cover the 2026 America the Beautiful annual pass.<\/p>\n<p>Jenny McCarty said she learned recently what the 2026 national parks pass would look like and felt it shifted attention away from the landscapes the passes are meant to celebrate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can tell there\u2019s no nature there, no national parks featured,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Interior recently announced the 2026 annual passes would feature President Trump&#8217;s face next to George Washington&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>McCarty initially joked about covering the pass with her own artwork. \u201cI was like, luckily I have this sticker to put on top,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The response online surprised her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople expressed that they loved that idea,\u201d she said, turning the joke into a small business venture that has grown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are all original paintings,\u201d she said. One design shows \u201ca grizzly bear sitting here, looking at Denali on a clear sky day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarty said the goal is to refocus attention on nature.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really just want to embrace what people are already expressing everywhere, that they want to see nature on their national parks pass. They don\u2019t want it to be political,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The stickers are sized to match the America The Beautiful pass and are designed to be peeled in different ways. \u201cThey can cover it entirely,\u201d McCarty said, or users can partially peel sections to reveal the original pass beneath. She noted that park staff usually check details on the back, including \u201cthe signature, the barcode, the year and the month they purchased it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What McCarty expected to be a small side project has instead gained traction. \u201cIt seems to have snowballed,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ve had over 1,200 orders.\u201d She recruited her husband, Nathan Skalak, and others to help fulfill orders, which have come from all 50 states.<\/p>\n<p>Skalak said the project resonates with people who care about preservation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople care and they want to see these places preserved,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is one little way of just reminding ourselves of the beauty of the parks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesageleafstudio.com\/products\/national-parks-pass-stickers?srsltid=AfmBOoqXVOoeEAhm1YjtE5YgOOd4tGkH2GHg-froVoVeVlD2EJP-psSw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">McCarty charges $6 per sticker.\u00a0<\/a>She said that after material and shipping costs, proceeds are being donated to the National Parks Conservation Association and the National Park Foundation.
