Bill Maher<\/a> has said that he and Larry David<\/a> are no longer friends amid a falling-out over politics. <\/p>\n

Earlier this year, David, the creator of the acclaimed sitcoms Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, wrote a satirical essay critiquing Maher\u2019s meeting with US president Donald Trump<\/a>, titled \u201cMy Dinner with Adolf\u201d.<\/p>\n

During a new interview with The Free Press\u2019s Maya Sulkin this week, Maher, 69, was asked if his public positions had \u201ccosted [sic] you invites, friends, [or] anything of that nature\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cF*** yeah,\u201d he said. \u201c\u200b\u200bI mean, Larry David certainly is not really my friend anymore.\u201d He said that they did not speak after the essay was published.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said my piece on my last show,\u201d Maher added, referring to a November episode of his series Real Time. <\/p>\n

Asked if he was \u201csurprised\u201d by David\u2019s editorial, Maher replied: \u201cYeah… but it was a great clapback.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maher met with Trump in April, after which he controversially praised the president, describing him as \u201cgracious\u201d and \u201cmeasured\u201d.<\/p>\n

David\u2019s piece, written from the imagined perspective of a writer meeting Adolf Hitler in 1939, mocked Maher\u2019s comments about Trump.<\/p>\n

In November, Maher defended his meeting with Trump and hit out at David\u2019s essay.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people who got all butt-hurt because I had dinner with [Trump]. You know, \u2019cause he\u2019s Hitler. Except he\u2019s not,\u201d Maher said. \u201cSo unhelpful and dumb. \u2026 Every year, I used to ask Larry David to do Real Time and he\u2019d always say, \u2018Bill, I can\u2019t, I\u2019m not smart enough about politics to do your show.\u2019 Yeah, I get that now.\u201d <\/p>\n

He claimed that critics of Trump who refuse to engage with the much-criticised US leader are \u201cnot serious people\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat exactly is the argument?\u201d he asked. \u201cThat by talking to Trump I\u2019ll elevate him? Oh my God, don\u2019t tell me he could become president.\u201d<\/p>\n
