Bill Maher confirmed that he and Larry David are no longer friends following David\u2019s public criticism of Maher\u2019s dinner with President Trump.
\nMaher expressed surprise at David\u2019s satirical essay mocking him, noting that they have not spoken since its publication and that he responded to David\u2019s comments on his show.
\nHe also revealed that Jimmy Kimmel was upset with him after Maher publicly discussed comments made by Kimmel\u2019s wife about ending relationships over political differences.<\/p>\n
Bill Maher<\/a> has confirmed that he and Larry David<\/a> are no longer friends after the Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/a> star and creator called the Real Time<\/a> host out for his April meeting with President Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n Maher addressed the situation during a sit-down interview with The Free Press\u2019 Maya Sulkin<\/a> on Monday (December 22), where he was asked if anything he\u2019s ever done or said publicly has \u201ccost him invites, friends, [or] anything of that nature.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cF**k yeah,\u201d the Club Random podcast host answered.<\/p>\n When Sulkin followed up with, \u201cAnyone you care about?\u201d Maher said, \u201cI mean, Larry David certainly is not really my friend anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n The HBO host revealed he hasn\u2019t spoken to David since the satirical essay he published in the New York Times earlier this year. In the piece, titled \u201cMy Dinner With Adolf,\u201d<\/a> the Seinfeld<\/a> co-creator mocked Maher\u2019s White House dinner with Trump, whom Maher referred to as \u201cgracious.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cI said my piece on my last show,\u201d Maher said, confirming that David didn\u2019t reach out to him either. \u201cI put him in my last editorial right before Thanksgiving.\u201d<\/p>\n Maher admitted he was \u201csurprised\u201d by what David wrote, but noted he gave a \u201cgreat clapback\u201d on Real Time.<\/p>\n On the final episode of Real Time of 2025, Maher addressed<\/a> his meeting with Trump and David\u2019s comments. \u201cThe people who got all butt-hurt because I had dinner with [Trump]. You know, because he\u2019s Hitler. Except he\u2019s not\u2026 so unhelpful and dumb,\u201d he said, per The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n He added, \u201cEvery year, I used to ask Larry David to do Real Time, and he\u2019d always say, \u2018Bill, I can\u2019t, I\u2019m not smart enough about politics to do your show.\u2019 Yeah, I get that now.\u201d<\/p>\n During his interview with The Free Press, Maher also confessed, \u201cJimmy Kimmel<\/a> got mad at me.\u201d He was referring to how he publicly bashed Kimmel\u2019s wife,<\/a> Molly McNearney, for saying she ended relationships with relatives who voted for Donald Trump.<\/p>\n \u201cAll I did was quote something his wife said publicly. I tried my best to only, like, stick to what she was saying and not take any cheap shots or pot shots,\u201d Maher explained.<\/p>\n Maher previously addressed the Kimmel situation on his podcast earlier this month, saying, \u201cI\u2019m sorry. I mean, I was being, again, as respectful as I could, but I don\u2019t agree with that point of view. And since she went public with it, it wasn\u2019t out of school for me to go public with it. I love Jimmy. I always have.
