Blue Jays get positive prediction on Bo Bichette.<\/p>\n
The Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> are expected to soon make a splash amid an active offseason.<\/p>\n Toronto is in need of a bat<\/a>, and the Blue Jays have been interested in the likes of Bo Bichette, Alex Bregman, and Kyle Tucker. MLB<\/a> insider Jon Heyman did a live stream on Bleacher Report and predicted the Blue Jays will re-sign Bichette.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m going to say he sticks with Toronto,\u201d Heyman said<\/a> on Tuesday. \u201cThere hasn\u2019t been a lot of reporting on that. Certainly, the Red Sox<\/a> are a possibility if he does not end up with Toronto. To me, it\u2019s a marriage that works, so I think Toronto.\u201d<\/p>\n The Blue Jays have continued to show interest in Bichette, who\u2019s one of the top hitters in all of baseball. Toronto re-signing him does make a lot of sense, as he could shift to second base and continue to be an impact batter.<\/p>\n Although Bichette\u2019s market appears to be slowly moving, Toronto has remained interested in a reunion, and it does seem likely it will happen, according to Heyman.<\/p>\n Bichette has led the AL in hits twice in his career. Last season, Bichette hit .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs<\/a>.<\/p>\n Blue Jays Looking to Get Better<\/p>\n Toronto has been one of the more active teams this offseason. The Blue Jays have signed starting pitchers Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce, as well as high-leverage reliever Tyler Rogers.<\/p>\n The Blue Jays lost in Game 7 of the World Series, and Toronto is close to winning. With that, Blue Jays CEO Mark Shapiro said the team<\/a> has to get better.<\/p>\n \u201cMy philosophy on free agents is there is no such thing as close,\u201d Shapiro\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0on MLB Network Radio on Sunday. \u201cYou either are done, or you are not done; there is nothing in between. We are still working to get better. This is the bottom line: our division is an absolute beast.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can talk about what I\u2019ve experienced in 34 years, almost 35 in the game, and one thing that is clear to me is there is nothing like the AL East. \u2026 The bottom line, to answer your question, we need to get better.\u201d<\/p>\n The Blue Jays have been linked to the Bichette, Tucker, and Bregman. It\u2019s been widely speculated that Toronto will land one of them, if not multiple. But nothing is done right now, so Toronto will continue to monitor the market.<\/p>\n Bichette Could Get Lucrative Deal<\/p>\n Bichette is one of the top free agents available and will be in line for a massive payday<\/a>.<\/p>\n Although Bichette hinted at a move to second base, it could hint at a slow market. Yet, ESPN MLB insider Kiley McDaniel predicted that Bichette will sign a five-year, $130 million deal.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s also a chance Bichette\u2019s market takes a turn similar to Bregman\u2019s last winter, toward a shorter term with opt-outs (two or three years, roughly a $30 million AAV) if he doesn\u2019t get the giant guarantee he\u2019s looking for,\u201d McDaniel wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThis has a real chance to happen because Bichette could hit the market in his 20s next winter, and a full, healthy 2026, maybe even with better defense, would really help his case for a big long-term deal.\u201d<\/p>\n Bichette is a two-time MLB All-Star.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\tCole Shelton<\/a> Cole Shelton covers the NHL, MLB and Cleveland Browns for Heavy.com.
