Zak Starkey<\/a> said he remained confused about his double dismissal from the Who<\/a> earlier this year \u2013 but explained why he didn\u2019t hold a grudge against his former colleagues.<\/p>\n

In April 2025 the veteran band announced<\/a> they\u2019d let him go. It was speculated that singer Roger Daltrey<\/a> had made the decision after a London concert in which he couldn\u2019t hear himself over Starkey\u2019s drumming.<\/p>\n

Pete Townshend<\/a>\u00a0then said<\/a> the move had been rescinded. But soon afterwards Starkey was once again told<\/a> he\u2019d been dismissed. He later said<\/a> the drama had lost him the opportunity to join Oasis<\/a> for their reunion tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to say that we remained friends throughout,\u201d the son of Ringo Starr <\/a>told Q1043 New York in a recent interview (video below). \u201cI spoke to Roger like, two weeks ago…we never actually became, like, enemies or anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI think they just wanted to change; and then they didn\u2019t, and then they did, and then they didn\u2019t, and then they did, and then they didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was pretty confusing. And I think they\u2019re still confused. I\u2019m still confused!\u201d<\/p>\n

Zak Starkey Calls Who Firing \u2018Just Band Business\u2019<\/p>\n

Starkey went on to say that he didn\u2019t want to darken nearly three decades of work by feeling bad about the way it ended. \u201cI\u2019ve been working with Roger on and off since I was 17,\u201d he said. “And I worked with John Entwistle<\/a> from even younger than that.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was in the Who 29 years, and I wouldn\u2019t bury a friendship over it. It\u2019s just band business.
\u201cI have nothing against them. As far as I know, they\u2019re done. I\u2019d like to have finished it off, but I didn\u2019t. … I don\u2019t hold a grudge, really, because they\u2019re my friends; and we’ve been friends for such a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n
