Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse assistant coach Nunzio Campanile is set to leave the Orange to become the offensive coordinator at UConn, according to a report by ESPN\u2019s Pete Thamel.<\/p>\n
The job will be Campanile\u2019s first as a full-time offensive coordinator in college football. He has done the job on an interim basis multiple times at Rutgers.<\/p>\n
UConn will be coached next season by Jason Candle, who was previously the head coach at Toledo and has a background in offense.<\/p>\n
Campanile has been at Syracuse since 2023 when he was hired by Dino Babers. He has coached either quarterbacks or tight ends for Syracuse for the past three years. <\/p>\n
He also served as the team\u2019s interim head coach in 2023 following the firing of Babers, leading the Orange to a bowl game by beating Wake Forest in the regular-season finale and then losing to South Florida in the Boca Raton Bowl.<\/p>\n
Campanile\u2019s starting quarterbacks at Syracuse have consistently excelled and his most successful moments came coaching Kyle McCord and Steve Angeli, a pair of quarterbacks that he had close relationships with thanks to his ties to high school football in New Jersey.<\/p>\n
The rest of his room, however, struggled this season following the season-ending injury to Angeli and the Orange rotated unsuccessfully through a flurry of options during a 3-9 season. <\/p>\n
During that time, Campanile\u2019s responsibilities were switched from quarterbacks tight ends, switching places with Michael Johnson Sr.<\/p>\n
