For a second consecutive season, Angel Reese put forth an impressive individual campaign despite her team, the Chicago Sky, failing to avoid the bottom of the standings.<\/p>\n
Reese<\/a> averaged 14.7 points (on improved shooting) and 12.6 rebounds per game, giving her consecutive seasons of averaging a double-double (and making the All-Star game<\/a>) at the professional level. She averaged a double-double for three consecutive years in college (two years at LSU, once at Maryland).<\/p>\n This puts her in a historic group, one that also includes three-time WNBA<\/a> MVP and basketball Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie. She saw the stat floating around on X and hopped online to give Reese her flowers.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Caitlin Clark gets help from Travis Kelce as she edges closer to Nike signature shoe release<\/a>READ MORE: Caitlin Clark impact clear as she tops LeBron James and Stephen Curry in one metric<\/a><\/p>\n “In the history of women\u2019s basketball, only three players have recorded multiple double-double seasons at both the collegiate and WNBA levels: three-time MVP Lisa Leslie, 2021 WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones, and two-time WNBA All-Star Angel Reese,” the lengthy tweet started.<\/p>\n “Now entering Year 3 of her WNBA career, Reese has an opportunity to move into third all-time in league history in double-double seasons.”<\/p>\n Content cannot be displayed without consent<\/p>\n Leslie, in contention for the greatest WNBA player of all time, took notice. “This is outstanding! Records are meant to be broken! Go get \u2018em,” she wrote, quote-tweeting the account “Trendhoopstars.”<\/p>\n Whether she breaks those records in Chicago or somewhere else is still up for debate. The Sky are still rebuilding, with Reese anchoring a young team also featuring Hailey van Lith and Kamilla Cardoso.<\/p>\n Reese gave an awkward interview in early September in which she questioned projected starting point guard Courtney Vandersloot and called for the team to make major changes or move her.<\/p>\n While away with Team USA training for next year’s FIBA World Cup, Reese walked back some of these comments. “I’m under contract, so yes, I plan on returning to the Sky,” Reese said to reporters during her first interview since September.<\/p>\n READ MORE: WNBA team may relocate after bid from NBA heavyweight<\/a>READ MORE: Lauren Betts makes her feelings clear on sister Sienna finally making UCLA debut<\/a><\/p>\n “I’m continuing to talk to [new head coach] Tyler [Marsh] and building that relationship with [general manager] Jeff [Pagliocca] and Tyler,” she continued.<\/p>\n Reese is under contract with Chicago through the end of the 2027 campaign. “I’m not settling for the same —- we did this year,” she said in September. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.<\/p>\n “I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason.
