Moving things to the quantum realm gets more complex, though with equilibrium many-body systems still quite solvable. Where things get interesting is with nonequilibrium quantum systems.<\/p>\n<p>These open systems are subject to energy gains and losses that disrupt its equilibrium. The truncated Wigner approximation (TWA) is used as a semi-classical method to solve these, but dissipative spin systems proved tricky. Now however [Hosseinabadi] et al. <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prxquantum\/abstract\/10.1103\/1wwv-k7hg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">have put forward a TWA framework<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.buffalo.edu\/news\/releases\/2025\/10\/quantum-dynamics-on-your-laptop.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PR article<\/a>) for driven-dissipative <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC6467283\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">many-body dynamics<\/a> that works on consumer hardware.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, even with such optimizations there is still the issue that the TWA is only an approximation.
