ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow<\/a>) \u2014 The Ithaca Police Department says a man was getting death threats.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cThe subject was known to officers. Members of the Ithaca-Tompkins County Negotiation Team engaged with the individual to assess his health and welfare. He agreed to meet officers at Upper Buttermilk Falls Park but communication became sporadic thereafter. For his safety and the safety of others, members of the Ithaca-Tompkins Response Team safely took him into custody,\u201d Chief Tom Kelly said in a statement released Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Kelly added some resources for addressing mental health needs:<\/p>\n

Prevalence: About 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience a mental health condition such as anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, and others. However, only around 43% of those receive professional treatment<\/p>\n
