Just a few seasons into his run on \u201cSaturday Night Live<\/a>,\u201d Marcello Hern\u00e1ndez<\/a> landed on the sort of breakout character cast members spend years trying to craft.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His home-wrecking lothario, Domingo, was an immediate hit. It played so well with fans that the first-ever Gen Z<\/a> member of \u201cSNL<\/a>\u201d brought out the character for several more sketches and was given a moment in the overstuffed run of show for the sketch series\u2019 50th anniversary special. The character even appeared at the beginning of one episode, in a cold open spot typically reserved for political sketches that focus on politics and the news of the week.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the New York Times<\/a> this week, Hern\u00e1ndez refused to take credit for the skit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am simply a button on this jacket,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Still, Hern\u00e1ndez was willing to admit that Domingo made him a bit of a household name. The problem? The name isn\u2019t his own.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt pushed my career further along and got more people to get to know me. A lot of people still call me Domingo on the street,\u201d he said. \u201cI want to make it clear. I do have a name.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hern\u00e1ndez\u2019s humility about the star turn has been noticed. Showrunner Lorne Michaels<\/a> shared plenty of praise with the Times. He said that Hern\u00e1ndez was \u201cbrought up well\u201d with \u201creal values.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to gush, but he\u2019s gotten better every year,\u201d Michaels said. \u201cBecause he played soccer \u2014 and I go to baseball games with him \u2014 he understands the notion of a team.\u201d<\/p>\n
