Andrew Heaney, a left-handed pitcher who spent part of his career with the New York Yankees<\/a>, announced his retirement from Major League Baseball at age 34, capping a 12-year career that culminated with a World Series championship.<\/p>\n

Heaney helped the Texas Rangers<\/a> win the 2023 World Series, earning the victory in Game 4. He appeared in five playoff games during that championship run, allowing five earned runs over 11 innings.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaying Major League Baseball has been a unique honor and privilege,\u201d Heaney said in his retirement announcement<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m extremely proud of what I achieved with that opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over his career, Heaney compiled a 56-72 record with a 4.57 ERA and 1,156 strikeouts. During his brief stint with the Yankees, he posted a 7.32 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 35 2\/3 innings across 12 games.<\/p>\n

The pitcher received three Roberto Clemente Award nominations during his career, recognizing his community involvement and character. Despite never making an All-Star team, Heaney reflected positively on his journey through baseball.<\/p>\n

\u201cI played with many of the greatest players of this generation and potentially some of the best players to ever wear a uniform,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m humbled that I was even able to share the field with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heaney acknowledged the sacrifices that came with a professional baseball career, particularly time away from family. He said he\u2019s ready to shift his focus to his personal life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am now ready to return my focus and energy to being a husband, father, family man, and active member of my community,\u201d Heaney said. \u201cI\u2019m retiring from baseball, but I hope to give back more than I received.\u201d<\/p>\n
