Kenny Cunningham believes Jeremie Frimpong could be the answer for Liverpool on the right-wing after Federico Chiesa failed to make the most of a rare start in the Reds\u2019 2-1 victory over Wolves at the weekend. The Italian started in place of the suspended Dominik Szoboszlai, but was replaced by Conor Bradley on the hour-mark.<\/p>\n

The introduction of the Northern Ireland international saw Frimpong<\/a>, who set up the opening goal for Ryan Gravenberch from right-back, take up a more advanced role for the remainder of the game.<\/p>\n

Mohamed Salah<\/a>, who is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations, has been Liverpool<\/a>\u2019s undisputed first-choice option on the right flank since he first joined the club back in the summer of 2017.<\/p>\n

But he found himself benched by Arne Slot<\/a> earlier this month as the Dutchman looked to rectify the Reds\u2019 struggles, with Liverpool since embarking on a seven-game unbeaten run.<\/p>\n

Szoboszlai<\/a> will return from suspension for the Reds\u2019 clash with Leeds United on New Year\u2019s Day, while Salah will be available for Liverpool again next month when his AFCON campaign concludes.<\/p>\n

But Cunningham thinks Frimpong could be the answer for Slot in the position during the second half of the season regardless, with the former Republic of Ireland international urging the Reds head coach to instead turn to the transfer window if it does not work out.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe big question is down Liverpool’s right side,\u201d he said on Premier Sports. \u201cSalah is out of the team, he could potentially come back to the football club after AFCON.<\/p>\n

\u201cHave they got the solution in the squad at the moment? Chiesa got his opportunity (vs Wolves) and was nowhere near good enough. Who else have they got?<\/p>\n

\u201cThis lad Frimpong might be the answer and his partnership with Bradley down that right-hand side.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe hasn’t got the ability to turn in tight little pockets like Salah at his best. He is predictable, but he is effective. He can get at his man in one-v-one situations and get the ball into the box.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has that burst of pace that Salah had a couple of years ago but hasn’t got now, to get Liverpool a bit of width down that side and get good quality delivery into the box.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe might be the answer in the short term, him and Bradley. Slot should have a look at that over the next six, eight, ten weeks and see if that is the answer.
