NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN head men’s basketball coach Andy Newman<\/a> has announced the addition of James Evans Jr. to the Matadors for the 2025-26 season.

\nA 6-6 guard, Evans spent his freshman season at UNLV in 2024-25 where he used a redshirt. Prior to college, Evans attended West Ranch High School in nearby Stevenson Ranch, Calif.<\/p>\n

“James is a very athletic and versatile wing that can score in a lot of ways,” said Newman. “We are very happy he gets to return home and play his college basketball in front of his friends and family.”

\nEvans lettered all four years on the varsity team at West Ranch under coach Jeff Bryant. He averaged 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals per game with the Wildcats. Evans would tally over 1,000 career points in his prep career while he helped West Ranch to league titles and playoff appearances in all of his four years.

\nEvans was ranked in the top 150 players in the 2024 class by 247Sports. He also has played basketball for Paul George Elite on the Nike EYBL Circuit.

\nEvans joins Jai Chisolm<\/a> (USC Salkehatchie), Josiah Davis<\/a> (Niagara University), Larry Hughes II<\/a> (Saint Louis University), Davius Loury<\/a> (John A. Logan College), Joshua O’Garro<\/a> (Texas State), Aleks Szymczyk<\/a> (Charlotte) and Quinton Webb<\/a> (University of New Mexico) as incoming members of the CSUN Men’s Basketball program in 2025-26.
