Backup quarterback Joe Milton was the only other active player not to play a down.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson had averaged 28 snaps per game since the Cowboys acquired him from the Bengals at the trade deadline in November.<\/p>\n<p>Not only was Wilson confused about his absence, so, too, was owner Jerry Jones.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the team planned to play Wilson. The Cowboys didn\u2019t play Wilson because, well, they sort of forgot about him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe only had 21 snaps [on defense] in the first half,\u201d Schottenheimer said Monday, via Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News. \u201cWe <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/sports\/nfl\/cowboys-admit-they-made-rotation-error-by-not-playing-lb-logan-wilson-vs-commanders\/ar-AA1TeSK9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">kind of messed the rotation<\/a> in the second half. It\u2019s not the first time it has happened. It won\u2019t be the last time. It happens with receivers. It happens with defensive linemen. It shouldn\u2019t happen. But we take that as a coaching staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jones said the day after the game he didn\u2019t have an explanation for why Wilson was MIA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe planned to have him in there. He needs to be in there. He has good instincts,\u201d Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. \u201cThe reason we got him was because he reads the play quick and can basically be in his lane of responsibility and react quick. It\u2019s critical that a linebacker have quick reacting [ability]. He\u2019s able to do that. That\u2019s why we got him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schottenheimer said it was a mistake to play Kenneth Murray all 44 snaps, Shemar James 36 snaps and Marist Liufau two snaps at linebacker without getting Wilson on the field.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do keep track of [snap counts],\u201d Schottenheimer said. \u201cOccasionally, you look at the numbers and they don\u2019t make sense, and this one certainly didn\u2019t make sense.
