We got a preview of some of them last year with Nolan McLean being the most significant contributor. Players like Carson Benge will battle in the spring for a potential role with the big league club out of camp.

Way further down the list of prospects is a 19-year-old named Edward Lantigua. Two seasons deep into his professional career, the young center fielder has been a quiet OBP machine.

He has now totaled 54 walks versus 66 strikeouts. Last year in the FCL, Lantigua walked 33 times while striking out just 29 times. This rare ability at any level should have him trending upward as his status within the farm system continues to provide him with a ladder toward the majors.

Edward Lantigua is walking his way among the best Mets prospects

By a point, Lantigua’s .427 OBP led all qualified players in the Mets organization last year. It’s not a completely brand new attribute of his. In 2024, he debuted with a .397 OBP. It came, in part, with 21 walks in 152 at-bats.

Little details like these offer a huge hint as to the kind of player a prospect can become. A bad eye at the plate rarely improves enough to make a big difference. Lantigua’s mastery of the strike zone only got better in his sophomore season, revealing how disciplined of a hitter he can turn out to be while leaving room for a fall that’ll still have us looking at him favorably.

There are other places he can improve. His power is minimal, hitting just 4 home runs in 383 plate appearances over two seasons. He stole 13 bases last year but was caught 10 times. His 55 Power actually rates slightly higher than the 50 Run. Home runs may need to wait as he adds more bulk to his lean 6’1, 174 pound body.

MLB Pipeline has him ranked as the 28th best Mets prospect. Based on the way his season turned out and the growth he showed, Lantigua should rise up a few spots the next time they update their list. He’s a natural to begin the year in St. Lucie. That’ll provide him with a new test in a league with more seasoned players

A new wave of New York Mets prospects are coming to the majors in 2026.
