Nearly 40 years after debuting in the United Kingdom, MTV is retiring several of its channels there. According to BBC News, <\/a>MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live will no longer be available after Dec. 31, 2025.<\/p>\n

MTV launched in the U.S. in 1981 and expanded to Europe in 1987, which included broadcasting in the U.K. A decade later, MTV added a dedicated channel for the U.K. A spokesperson for MTV\u2019s parent company, Paramount, declined to comment on the matter.<\/p>\n

MTV HD will remain an option for viewers in the U.K., but will not show music videos. MTV HD stopped airing music videos in 2011 and will move forward with a focus on reality TV series. Although the channels are disappearing in the U.K., it appears the U.S. versions will be unaffected.<\/p>\n

Rolling Stone reports<\/a> certain MTV channels in Australia, Poland, France and Brazil are also expected to shut down, but MTV officials did not respond to requests for confirmation. <\/p>\n
