\u201cBonjour, Mr. Clooney! Big fan of your work. It sounds like you\u2019d like to learn more about ours. This is an open invitation to visit The CBS Broadcast Center, where I\u2019m spending the holidays working to relaunch the Evening News with my colleagues. Tune in January 5,\u201d Weiss said in a statement shared by Paramount Skydance. The \u201cbonjour\u201d was presumably a reference to Clooney, his wife Amal and their twins becoming French citizens this week.<\/p>\n

In a wide-ranging interview<\/a> with Brent Lang about his career and his latest film \u201cJay Kelly,\u201d Clooney also touched on the upheaval at CBS News<\/a>, politics and his activism.<\/p>\n \u201cAm I worried about film studios? Sure. It\u2019s my business, but my primary loyalty is to my country. I\u2019m much more worried about how we inform ourselves and how we\u2019re going to discern reality without a functioning press,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Clooney also addressed President Trump\u2019s lawsuits against ABC News and CBS News in Variety\u2018s interview. \u201cIf CBS and ABC had challenged those lawsuits and said, \u2018Go fuck yourself,\u2019 we wouldn\u2019t be where we are in the country,\u201d Clooney says. \u201cThat\u2019s simply the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n Weiss, who took over CBS News in October, recently came under fire for abruptly pulling<\/a> a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d report on El Salvador\u2019s CECOT prison.<\/p>\n The response from Weiss was first reported by the New York Post.<\/p>\n Best of Variety<\/p>\n Sign up for Variety’s Newsletter<\/a>.
