Lucy Dacus, for instance, <a href=\"https:\/\/stereogum.com\/2324406\/watch-lucy-dacus-cover-sufjan-stevens-chicago-and-bring-out-zohran-mamdani-at-all-things-go\/news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">welcomed Mamdani onstage<\/a> during her performance at All Things Go. Mamdani is keeping that connection going as his term officially begins today. (It&#8217;s also the first day of no more MetroCards \u2014 the future really is now!)<\/p>\n<p>After being sworn in at midnight, Mamdani got a more elaborate inauguration event today at City Hall. Dacus was there to perform &#8220;Bread And Roses,&#8221; the longstanding political anthem associated with women&#8217;s suffrage and workers&#8217; rights, with lyrics drawn from James Oppenheim&#8217;s 1911 poem. It&#8217;s been covered over the years by artists including Judy Collins, Phil Collins, Pete Seeger, and Utah Phillips, and Dacus&#8217; supergroup boygenius once <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dFjWYwjokZU&amp;list=RDdFjWYwjokZU&amp;start_radio=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">worked it into<\/a> their song &#8220;Stay Down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At today&#8217;s event, a bundled-up Dacus sang &#8220;Bread And Roses&#8221; accompanied by Sarah Goldstone on Omnichord. Mandy Patinkin performed at the ceremony too.
