Unai Emery has confirmed Harvey Elliott<\/a> will not be making a permanent move to Aston Villa<\/a> after the club decided \u201ctwo months ago\u201d that they were not convinced by his signing. <\/p>\n

With a squad role only on offer at Liverpool, Elliott swapped Anfield for Villa Park on an initial loan deal last summer with an obligation to buy once he reached 10 appearances.<\/p>\n

He has, however, been stranded on five games since the start of October, giving Liverpool a strong hint that his \u00a335 million transfer would not be triggered.<\/p>\n

Harvey Elliott<\/a>\u2018s Villa predicament: A quick look<\/p>\n

\u2022 No Permanent Move: Unai Emery confirmed Villa decided \u201ctwo months ago\u201d not to trigger the \u00a335m obligation to buy.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Frozen Out: Elliott has been stuck on five appearances since October; five more would have triggered the permanent transfer.<\/p>\n

\u2022 No Easy Return: Liverpool have no recall option, leaving the 22-year-old stranded at Villa Park unless a new agreement is reached to terminate the loan.\n<\/p>\n

And Emery has now confirmed that he, nor the club, want to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent deal, telling reporters: \u201cThe problem we have with Harvey is this year he is on loan and in case he is playing matches, we must buy him. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe decided two months ago we are not convinced to sign him, spending the money we need. This is the issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut he is training every day, very good with us to help us in training and, of course, it is not good for him or good for us, but it is football and sometimes we must take decisions that are not good for us.<\/p>\n

\u201cI must take a decision but not damage the person, because he\u2019s a very good person and player and he deserves the best,\u201d Emery added. \u201cAfter he leaves, we can maybe use the position he is in to work for something.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is a sad state of affairs for Elliott who left his boyhood club after an impressive summer with England\u2019s U21s in a bid to play regularly, but he now does not even make matchday squads.<\/p>\n

His last appearance for Villa was four minutes off the bench on October 2, with his total tally amounting to measly 167 minutes over five appearances, which included two starts and a goal. <\/p>\n

Elliott attracts MLS interest \u2013 but \u2018not an option\u2019<\/p>\n

Elliott finds himself in a difficult position as he cannot move to a third club in the same season due to having played a very brief cameo role for Liverpool at the start of the campaign.<\/p>\n

A move to MLS for their new season would mitigate FIFA\u2019s regulations, with Charlotte FC among the interested suitors in the United States. <\/p>\n

But according to the Times<\/a>\u2018 Paul Joyce, \u201cMLS is not an option Elliott is contemplating,\u201d and as it stands, he \u201cwill not be returning to Liverpool either.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The report explains that Liverpool have no recall option and there has been no contact from Villa over ending the deal prematurely, which would incur a fee.<\/p>\n

The Athletic<\/a>\u2018s James Pearce, meanwhile, reports that Villa are \u201cevaluating options for ending the agreement\u201d and \u201chope a new agreement can be reached with Liverpool.\u201d<\/p>\n
