Luis de la Fuente recently discussed a Chelsea player who has become underrated in recent months. <\/p>\n

The Blues are struggling right now. It\u2019s an obvious statement considering Enzo Maresca has left the job<\/a> after a woeful month of December. <\/p>\n

The poor performances have been less about individuals and more a failure of the collective. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s a noticeable difference from last season, and even the opening weeks of the current Premier League campaign, when errors at the back were costing Chelsea<\/a> regularly. <\/p>\n

One of the biggest culprits, though, has truly changed his ways this season \u2014 so much so that he has entered the Spain manager\u2019s thoughts. <\/p>\n

The decision to keep Sanchez at Chelsea has paid dividends<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Since the summer, he looked a player renewed at Chelsea and seems to have eliminated the rage-inducing mistakes that would creep into his game on a regular basis last season. <\/p>\n

The Spanish stopper still hasn\u2019t fully shaken the reputation \u2014 it\u2019s hard to do in the age of social media \u2014 but as a result, Sanchez is one of Chelsea\u2019s most underrated players<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In a recent interview with AS<\/a>, De la Fuente remarks: \u201cFive or six of the best goalkeepers in the world. But no one talks about Robert S\u00e1nchez. No one talks about Leo Rom\u00e1n\u2026 and Joan Garc\u00eda, obviously. I mean, we have fantastic goalkeepers in Spain \u2013 truly fantastic.\u201d <\/p>\n

Spain have a golden generation of Casillas-inspired goalkeepers who can all play at the very top level. <\/p>\n

Of them all, Sanchez<\/a> has an argument for most in-form. Even when Chelsea have conceded poorly, it\u2019s usually not down to the man between the sticks. <\/p>\n

Robert Sanchez\u2019s World Cup prospects<\/p>\n

Having mentioned the golden generation of keepers currently at De la Fuente\u2019s disposal, it becomes easier to understand why Sanchez\u2019s hopes of a ticket to the World Cup<\/a> aren\u2019t the highest. <\/p>\n

As the Spain boss explains: \u201cIt\u2019s true that right now we\u2019re backing these three. And we\u2019re absolutely delighted with Unai [Simon], with David [Raya], and with \u00c1lex [Remiro]. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut we\u2019ll see what happens between now and March \u2013 just look how much can still happen \u2013 and then what happens by June, only God knows that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanchez has a ways to go to compete for a seat on the plane this summer, but he can do it. If he continues this form at Chelsea, he may leave his coach with no choice but to give him his chance. <\/p>\n

Regardless of whether he makes it with the national team, Chelsea fans will be ecstatic if their number one can maintain this level. Talks of a departure won\u2019t even come into play. <\/p>\n
