JONESBORO, Ark. \u2014 Jonesboro Parks Director Danny Kapales has resigned from his position with the City of Jonesboro, effective 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, city officials confirmed.<\/p>\n
Kapales had been on administrative leave since early December after the City of Jonesboro disclosed that the U.S. Department of Justice had opened an investigation involving him.<\/p>\n
Advertisement City officials confirmed Tuesday, Dec. 2, that they were notified that morning of the federal investigation. Mayor Harold Copenhaver said at the time that the city was fully cooperating and would continue to do so throughout the process.<\/p>\n Following notification of the investigation, Kapales was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome. Assistant Parks Director Jim Stearns was appointed acting parks director.<\/p>\n The city said it would not release additional information, citing the ongoing federal investigation, and directed all inquiries to the Public Information Officer for the FBI\u2019s Little Rock field office. Thus far, the FBI has only confirmed<\/a> the existence of the investigation and court-authorized activity in Jonesboro.<\/p>\n On Sunday, January 4, City Communications Director Donna Malone told NEA Report Kapales had resigned effective Friday. Stearns will remain in the interim position as the normal procedure for hiring is followed. No other information was released.<\/p>\n Around the time the investigation became public, FBI agents were observed at Kapales\u2019 residence.
