In January<\/a> 1976, Peter Frampton released what would become one of the biggest rock albums of all time. The double disc Frampton Come Alive! hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart<\/a> and stayed at the top of the charts for 10 weeks in 1976.<\/p>\n

The live album, recorded at concert venues in California and New York, spawned the hits \u201cShow Me the Way,\u201d \u201cBaby, I Love Your Way,\u201d and \u201cDo You Feel (Like We Do).\u201d The latter song featured Frampton\u2019s groundbreaking use of a talk box.<\/p>\n

But success<\/a> wasn\u2019t easy for the former Humble Pie frontman.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Billboard<\/a>, Frampton, now 75, recalled that while everyone was telling him how \u201cgreat\u201d the album\u2019s success was, he was thinking, \u201cYeah\u2026 but I\u2019ve got tomorrow to deal with.”<\/p>\n

\u201cHell, I\u2019ve got to do a studio record to follow this up. And in my mind, I\u2019m not proven in the studio, like I am now. I\u2019m stamped \u2018The Live Guy,\u2019\u201d he added. \u201cSo I felt like I had lost before I started the next part of my career. Before, there was nothing to compete with. Now, I felt, I\u2019m competing with Peter Frampton.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was probably the least favorite period of my life<\/a>,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Frampton noted that \u201cthe pressure was so great\u201d following Frampton Comes Alive! that there was \u201cabsolutely no need\u201d to do the follow-up studio album, I\u2019m in You, so soon after.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest mistake was just not shutting down at that point,\u201d the rock legend said. \u201cI had so much out there, the world was going crazy about Comes Alive! I didn\u2019t need to go and rush into something else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frampton did rush into recording I\u2019m In You. The follow-up album dropped in June 1977 while Frampton Comes Alive! was still charting. While I\u2019m in You was a success, in a 2025 interview, Frampton revealed that he wasn\u2019t a huge fan of the album, which featured his first-ever studio hit.<\/p>\n

Speaking on The Art of Music<\/a>, Frampton admitted he got \u201cscared\u201d when he was told Frampton Comes Alive! was \u201cthe biggest record ever… because, you know, that you’ve got to follow it up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, yeah, it was a very difficult period for me,” Frampton added. \u201cYou’re only as good as your last record, and I should not never have made any other records. I should have just [said], \u2018That’s it!\u2019”<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the\u00a0I\u2019m in You\u00a0record came out \u2014 which I didn’t want to make, let alone release \u2014 I realized that it was time to take stock, and a lot of things happened there,\u201d he said. \u201cMoney was going astray by the hundreds of thousands. And so I needed to sort all that out. And that’s when I sort of stopped working and basically just started writing on my own and getting ready for something that was to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fifty years later, Frampton will celebrate the milestone anniversary<\/a> of Frampton Comes Alive! With a new album, Carry the Light, \u00a0composed with his son<\/a>, Julian.<\/p>\n

The new studio album will be released on April 10, 2026, a date which marks the\u00a050th anniversary of\u00a0Frampton Comes Alive!\u00a0hitting No. 1 on the\u00a0Billboard\u00a0200, per Mix Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In an interview with WIVB<\/a>, the rocker said, \u201cI have no expectations of it doing anything, but Julian and I love it, so that\u2019s all that matters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoy the creative process more now than I ever did,\u201d Frampton added. \u201cIt was always like a pain before, but now it\u2019s \u2014 I don\u2019t have to do anything, which is so great. And I should\u2019ve thought about that back then, but the pressure was on.\u201d<\/p>\n
