{"id":388679,"date":"2026-01-05T06:29:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T06:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/388679\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T06:29:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T06:29:16","slug":"bone-temple-alpha-zombie-on-naked-dancing-prosthetics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/388679\/","title":{"rendered":"Bone Temple Alpha Zombie on Naked Dancing, Prosthetics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThere\u2019s a scene in \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/28-years-later\/\" id=\"auto-tag_28-years-later\" data-tag=\"28-years-later\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">28 Years Later<\/a>: The Bone Temple,\u201d Nia DaCosta\u2019s quick-fire sequel to last year\u2019s horror franchise returnee \u201c28 Years Later,\u201d that\u2019ll likely raise more than a few laughs in cinemas. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOn top of an English hill, surrounded by woods \u2014\u00a0and potential danger \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/ralph-fiennes\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ralph-fiennes\" data-tag=\"ralph-fiennes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ralph Fiennes<\/a>\u2018 blood-and-iodine-smeared skull collector Dr. Ian Kelson sings Duran Duran\u2019s sun-drenched \u201980s smash \u201cRio\u201d while dancing hand-in-hand with Samson, the film\u2019s hulking, mutated\u00a0and entirely nude\u00a0lead Alpha zombie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt\u2019s a peculiar, not to mention hilarious sight, not least for a gory genre film. But for anyone who saw Sony Pictures\u2019 \u201c28 Years Later,\u201d the scene marks a remarkable development for Samson \u2014 played by 6\u20198\u2033 actor and former MMA fighter <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/chi-lewis-parry\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chi-lewis-parry\" data-tag=\"chi-lewis-parry\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chi Lewis-Parry<\/a> \u2014 best remembered as \u201cKing of the Infected\u201d in the first outing and a ferocious monster with a penchant for ripping heads off with spines still attached (and then swinging them about like a flail). DaCosta\u2019s movie \u2014\u00a0in cinemas Jan. 16 \u2014 is a wholly different beast to Danny Boyle\u2019s, with wildly new characters and storylines, but it\u2019s the personal growth of Samson \u2014\u00a0and his budding bromance with Dr. Kelson \u2014\u00a0that offers one of its main talking points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m excited to see how people respond to that relationship, because it\u2019s not something you would typically expect from these movies,\u201d says Lewis-Parry, who notes that, having shot both films back-to-back, by the time they started on \u201cThe Bone Temple\u201d he and Fiennes \u201cwere already mates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor the 42-year-old, who this year also appeared in \u201cThe Running Man,\u201d\u00a0\u201cThe Bone Temple\u201d allowed him to flex his acting muscles much more than he had previously. Whereas in \u201c28 Years Later\u201d Samson was all Rage virus and excessive violence, this time he\u2019s mostly seen sitting in near quiet, spaced-out contemplation (largely thanks to the oversized doses of morphine Dr. Kelson frequently injects him with).<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-variety-2020\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Chi-Lewis-Parrys-character-Samson-has-many-scenes-with-Ralph-Fiennes-Dr-Kelson-in-28-Years-Later-The.jpeg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"667\" width=\"1000\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve always been very physical, but I just never really had the chance to do something with such depth. I knew there was a huge responsibility, but it was also a massive opportunity,\u201d he says. \u201cI wanted to be able to turn on the Rage side, but then also immediately turn it off. So I\u2019m glad that there\u2019s a nice marriage of the two, but both energies exist. I knew I had to tap into something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tUnfortunately for Lewis-Parry, he had one of the U.K.\u2019s most celebrated actors right next to him. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cYou\u2019re sitting there and you don\u2019t have much to say, and Ralph Fiennes is there Ralph Fiennes-ing,\u201d he recalls. \u201cAnd you kind of get lost in his performance. I did catch myself just watching him and thinking, \u2018In fact, I\u2019m supposed to be doing something \u2014\u00a0I need to step up!&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Duran Duran dancing scene was actually an improvisation on the part of Fiennes and not in the script.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThere was a take where he just took my hand and was looking at me and was like, \u2018Come on then,\u2019 and I just went with it,\u201d says Lewis-Parry. \u201cThe whole performance was Ralph\u2019s and it was just one of those moments. We could have taken it or not, and we chose to take it and it got used. And I think that just shows the connection me and him had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt was, he acknowledges, \u201cthe most fun I\u2019ve had naked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhich brings us to the nudity. Samson was undoubtedly one of the most talked about characters in \u201c28 Years Later,\u201d but it wasn\u2019t just for his colossal build, monstrous roar or the gory manner in which he despatched any human in his path. There was also his manhood \u2014\u00a0a rather impressively-sized prosthetic that the cameras didn\u2019t shy away from and caught the eye of many online commentators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt was to be expected,\u201d acknowledges Lewis-Parry. \u201cI\u2019m not mad about it \u2014\u00a0not even now. But I don\u2019t want to take away an ounce of credibility from the immense work that everyone put into into these films. Everyone is incredible. And I don\u2019t want Samson\u2019s prosthetic to steal any of the shine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile there\u2019s plenty of new additions to be excited about in \u201cThe Bone Temple\u201d \u2014\u00a0not least the performance of Jack O\u2019Connell as a sadistic cult leader (particularly his scenes with Fiennes) \u2014\u00a0Samson\u2019s prosthetic is very much on display again and quite prominently. But Lewis-Parry\u2019s hoping whatever comedic titillation it sparked last time around will have died down \u2014\u00a0with the focus now on the filmmaking and craft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSamson\u2019s full prosthetic body suit \u2014\u00a0appendage attached \u2014 took seven people around six to eight hours to fit on him each time, he claims. \u201cSo you\u2019d start around 2 a.m.,\u00a0and then after 10-hour days with potential overtime, you might finish around 9 p.m.\u201d While the prosthetic pieces were bigger in \u201c28 Years Later,\u201d in \u201cThe Bone Temple\u201d \u2014\u00a0featuring more close-up shots of a (heavily sedated) Samson \u2014\u00a0he says it was \u201cwith a lot more veins, so more detail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe whole process of fitting Samson\u2019s prosthetics and painting over them was a \u201ctremendous workload,\u201d he says, but it was one that had to be done more than 25 times for days requiring full-body shots (each suit, effectively glued onto him, was one-time use only). But there were also scenes where Samson was just seen from the waist up. Given the rather low temperatures where they were shooting in the North of England, Lewis-Parry says \u201cthose were great days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA third \u201c28 Years Later\u201d film was recently given the go-ahead by Sony, with Alex Garland again writing the script and Cillian Murphy reportedly set to star. Lewis-Parry has little idea whether Samson will return \u2014\u00a0\u201cas much as you want to know, I want to know!\u201d \u2014\u00a0but says that, even if time\u2019s up for one of the horror world\u2019s most fearsome new arrivals, he\u2019s just glad to have gotten to play a role that sparked such a reaction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cYou do many characters and you never revisit them. But this is a character I have a relationship with \u2014\u00a0so I care about how he\u2019s perceived,\u201d he says. \u201cThat could be seen as silly, but I care about the characters so I care about what I\u2019m putting into it.
