After nearly 30 years, one of the most beloved romantic-comedies of the ’90s might be getting the sequel treatment.

Dermot Mulroney recently revealed “there is talk of a sequel” to his 1997 P.J. Hogan-helmed My Best Friend’s Wedding, in which he co-starred with Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett.

“I know nothing about it,” the actor clarified to the New York Post. “Last I heard, quote, lawyers were talking, unquote.”

My Best Friend’s Wedding stars Roberts and Mulroney as Julianne and Michael, childhood friends who made a deal to marry each other if they were both still single by 28. Days before her 28th birthday, Michael announces he’s marrying 20-year old Kimberly (Diaz), forcing Julianne to realize she’s in love with her best friend, subsequently plotting to ruin the wedding.

In 2023, Roberts expressed interest in reprising her role as Jules when asked which title from her filmography she’d like to see get a sequel. “I think, maybe, My Best Friend’s Wedding,” she said on Watch What Happens Live.

“Because there’s so many people in it, and to see what they’re doing and how Kimmy and Michael’s marriage is going,” added Roberts, before revealing whom she thinks Michael should have chosen: “Well, I mean, of course, Jules. But he married Kimmy.”

With Diaz coming out of her 11-year acting retirement to star in Netflix’s Back in Action this year, perhaps the 4x Golden Globe nominee will be up for the sequel as well.

After nearly 30 years, one of the most beloved romantic-comedies of the ’90s might be getting the sequel…

[57
236,22506,88,31717
post-38919","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-celebrities","tag-celebrities","tag-dermot-mulroney","tag-entertainment","tag-my-best-friends-wedding
["GET
