When Michael Kay asked Yankees<\/a> manager Aaron Boone how \u201csick to your stomach\u201d he\u2019ll be watching Aaron Judge lead Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, he expected the typical manager response: thinly veiled concern wrapped in diplomatic support. <\/p>\n

Instead, Boone\u2019s answer on the YES Network\u2019s \u201cYankees Hot Stove\u201d show revealed something much more genuine \u2014 actual enthusiasm for his superstar playing in the international tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m actually excited for Aaron and that\u2019s not politically correct,\u201d Boone stated firmly in a clip shared on X\/Twitter<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m excited for him because I know he didn\u2019t do it the last time.\u201d<\/p>\n

This candid answer stands in stark contrast to the anxiety most MLB managers express when their star players participate in the WBC. The tournament\u2019s timing \u2014 during spring training when players are still ramping up \u2014 has historically made front offices nervous about injury risks. <\/p>\n

Kay directly referenced the Diaz situation, asking Boone if he worries about a similar fate for Judge. <\/p>\n

While acknowledging the inherent risks, Boone refused to let fear overshadow what he sees as an important opportunity for both Judge and baseball.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, look, any play time, you\u2019re playing high stakes baseball that early in the year, there\u2019s a little bit of concern, but it\u2019s also, it\u2019s become a big part of our sport and you understand that,\u201d Boone explained.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s most striking about Boone\u2019s perspective is his belief that Judge\u2019s participation isn\u2019t just acceptable \u2014 it\u2019s appropriate given his stature in the game. <\/p>\n

After Judge declined participation in the previous WBC tournament to focus on his new role as Yankees captain, Boone sees this as the natural progression for a player of Judge\u2019s caliber.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think a player of his magnitude, of his Caliber. And I think as popular as we\u2019ve seen this tournament or whatever you want to call it become, and certainly last time it was a special, special event,\u201d Boone said. \u201cI think the fact that Aaron Judge is captaining the US Team, I think it\u2019s the right thing.\u201d <\/p>\n

The Yankees manager is balancing multiple considerations \u2014 the health of his franchise cornerstone, the growth of international baseball, and Judge\u2019s personal development. Rather than seeing these as competing interests, Boone views them as complementary, suggesting that high-level international competition might actually benefit players.<\/p>\n
