ABC\u2019s \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a>\u201d is reportedly reducing the number of musical guest performances it features on the show this year, per<\/a> multiple<\/a> outlets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The news was first shared by The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, which reported that the show looked to cut down to just two performances a week.<\/p>\n

Deadline reported that the number of performances would go down to \u201caround two,\u201d but it was \u201cnot a hard number,\u201d as episodes haven\u2019t always featured musical guests. Variety indicated that the number was \u201cmore likely to vary.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reason for the reduction is unclear. Variety speculated that \u201cit seems likely that budget considerations played a role.\u201d<\/p>\n

HuffPost has reached out to representatives for ABC and \u201cLive!\u201d for comment.<\/p>\n

It appears the change has yet to take place as Kimmel\u2019s show is scheduled to feature three performances this week: one by folk artist Molly Tuttle, another by Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami (HUNTR\/X from \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d) and Debbie Gibson is set to sit in with the house band, The Cletones.<\/p>\n

The decision at \u201cLive!\u201d would leave fellow host Jimmy Fallon with the only late-night program that regularly books musical performances four times a week, with nights featuring guest comedy acts as exceptions.<\/p>\n

Back in 2024, \u201cLate Night With Seth Meyers\u201d dropped its house band<\/a>, led by \u201cSNL<\/a>\u201d alum Fred Armisen, due to budget cuts and the show\u2019s music department went with them. Stephen Colbert\u2019s \u201cLate Show,\u201d which is set to end in May, \u201ctypically hosts one to two musical guests,\u201d LateNighter noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The news follows Kimmel\u2019s win in the best talk show category<\/a> at the Critics\u2019 Choice Awards on Sunday.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s been a \u201cdownward spiral\u201d in the amount of late-night musical bookings since peaking at over 800 performances between 2011 and 2013, according to an analysis<\/a> by Consequence of Sound last year. <\/p>\n

There were close to 200 bookings in 2023, per CoS.<\/p>\n

Mac Burrus, who books performances on Kimmel\u2019s show along with Jim Pitt, told the outlet that music has been a priority at the program \u201cfrom day one.\u201d<\/p>\n
