He was 63.<\/p>\n<p>Sean\u2019s son and Patrick\u2019s nephew, Jesse, confirmed the devastating news in a statement to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2026\/01\/07\/patrick-swayze-brother-sean-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">TMZ<\/a> on Wednesday. He revealed that his father passed away in Los Angeles on Dec. 15.<\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office determined that Sean died \u201cof an acute upper gastrointestinal bleed and severe metabolic acidosis brought on by cirrhosis of the liver,\u201d per a death record obtained by the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Swayze\u2019s younger brother, Sean Swayze, has died at the age of 63. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Rachel Leon, Patrick and Sean Swayze\u2019s cousin, confirmed the tragic news further in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DSXmAIIDEUt\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Instagram post<\/a> shared on Dec. 17.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m heartbroken to share that my cousin Sean Swayze passed away today,\u201d she wrote alongside two sweet snaps of the deceased. \u201cThis is a picture he took recently for us to promote the Dirty Dancing crawfish theme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy daughter, a marketing manager, came up with this idea to honor our late cousin, Patrick Swayze,\u201d she continued. \u201cWe sent the T-shirts to Sean, who wore them proudly for us. He was always fun and full of\u00a0life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rachel Leon, Patrick and Sean Swayze\u2019s cousin, confirmed the tragic news further in an Instagram post shared on Dec. 17. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Rachel added that Sean had planned to visit her in Texas before his sudden death and that she was \u201creally looking forward to\u201d seeing him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur thoughts and prayers go out to his brother Don Swayze and his children, Cassie Swayze, Kyle Swayze and Jesse Swayze,\u201d she concluded. \u201cWe are praying hard for the entire family during this difficult time. Please know that we love you and are always here for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sean\u2019s passing comes just over 16 years after his famous brother <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/1999\/11\/30\/dirty-dancing-star-patrick-swayze-dies\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">died from pancreatic cancer<\/a> in September 2009. The \u201cDirty Dancing\u201d star was 57.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer in January 2008, opened up about his battle with the deadly disease <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Health\/patrick-swayze-cancer-im-hell\/story?id=6580801\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">during a chat with ABC\u2019s Barbara Walters<\/a> shortly before his death.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cDirty Dancing\u201d star was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer in January 2008. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I\u2019d better get a fire under it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cGhost\u201d star, however, died just months later. He was married to writer and dancer Lisa Niemi, now 69, at the time of his death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months,\u201d his publicist, Annett Wolf, said in a statement on Sept. 14, 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Swayze during the 48th Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 19, 1991. WireImage<\/p>\n<p>Patrick and Sean\u2019s father, Jesse Wayne Swayze, passed away in November 1982 at the age of 57. Their mother, Patsy Yvonne Helen Swayze, died in September 2013 at the age of 86.<\/p>\n<p>Besides their respective families, both Patrick and Sean are survived by their brother, actor Don Swayze, 67, and sister, actress Bambi Swayze, 66.
