Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray

Chris Davies doesn’t expect to welcome Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray back from injury until February.

Gray suffered a calf injury in Blues’ draw with Derby County on Boxing Day which has forced him to miss their last three games.

The 29-year-old was in the midst of a purple patch but Blues aren’t expecting him back imminently.

“I still think we’re looking into February for Demarai,” said Blues manager Davies. “I think the original estimation was six weeks, but he would be one that I think would get back in a quick timeframe.

“He’s a quick healer and not injured much, really professional, so he’ll do everything he can to reduce that time. But I think we are looking right into February for that one.”

Alex Cochrane and Keshi Anderson also missed Blues’ victory over Coventry City last weekend. While Anderson is seemingly on the mend, Cochrane faces another spell on the sidelines with an ankle issue.

“Alex has obviously got an issue with his ankle and he’s going to be out for a few weeks,” added Davies. “Keshi is doing OK but Alex is the one we’re going to miss for longer. He’s played so much football and done so well but it’s another setback for Alex.”

Meanwhile, right-back Ethan Laird remains on track to return to training in February after a lengthy absence due to a hamstring injury.

“Ethan Laird is step by step moving forward, hopefully he can start training and being with everyone again in February.”

Get the latest Blues headlines sent straight to your phone

BirminghamLive has its very own Birmingham City WhatsApp community to deliver the latest headlines straight to your phone.
