CALHOUN, Ga. \u2014 One North Georgia little girl remains in the hospital after a flu diagnosis.<\/p>\n
Her mother says 2-year-old Sarah lost movement in her arms and legs, so she rushed her to a hospital near their home in Calhoun, Georgia.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I would say come here, she wouldn\u2019t do it either. She would just throw her upper torso. That was definitely a red flag to me,\u201d Kenia Lopez described to Channel 2\u2019s Candace McCowan.<\/p>\n
At the hospital, Sarah tested positive for Flu A.<\/p>\n

She couldn\u2019t sit up on her own, she couldn\u2019t walk, she couldn\u2019t move pretty much anything, just her head a little bit,\u201d explained Lopez.<\/p>\n That is when Lopez then rushed her daughter to a Chattanooga hospital where she was admitted, and put on a ventilator and feeding tube over the past several weeks. <\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s the way your immune system responds; it can either kill it or attack your nervous system,\u201d is how Lopez says doctors explained it to her.<\/p>\n \u201cGoes to show how dangerous this can be,\u201d said Dr. Dhaval Desai with The Atlanta Internists.<\/p>\n RELATED STORIES:<\/p>\n The number of flu cases is on a steep rise, and it\u2019s anticipated to keep rising when it comes to children.<\/p>\n \u201cSchool is just starting back, so I think the next week or two we are going to see an uptick of flu and flu-like illnesses,\u201d Dr. Desai said.<\/p>\n He says there is one thing everyone can do to help themselves. <\/p>\n \u201cWe do know getting the flu shot will help minimize your risk of catastrophic complications, hospitalizations, being in the ICU,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n For little Sarah, she\u2019s made some improvements.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s recuperated some of the leg movements she still cannot stand up,\u201d said Lopez. <\/p>\n She\u2019s now off a ventilator and off the feeding tube, and will have inpatient rehab in Atlanta. <\/p>\n \u201cChildren\u2019s Healthcare of Atlanta, their rehab facility is one of the best and closest to home, so they\u2019re going to be transferring her straight from here to there by ambulance,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n You can donate to a GoFundMe<\/a> for Sarah\u2019s recovery here.<\/p>\n
